Morgan, Lord Morgan, was Fellow and Tutor at The Queen's College, Oxford, 1966-1989, and Vice-Chancellor in the University of Wales 1989-1995. He has written over 30 books including Wales in British Politics (1963), The Age of Lloyd George (1971), Lloyd George: Family Letters (1973), Consensus and Disunity (1979), Wales: Rebirth of a Nation 1880 - 1980 (1981), Labour in Power 1945 - 1951 (1984), (ed.), The Oxford Illustrated History of Britain (1984), Labour Leaders (1987), The People's Peace: British History since 1945 (1990, new edn., 2008), Modern Wales: Politics, Places and People (1995), The Twentieth Century (2001), Ages of Reform (2011), and biographies of Lloyd George (1974), Keir Hardie (1975), Lord Addison (1980, with Jane Morgan), James Callaghan (1997) and Michael Foot (2007). He was elected Fellow of the British Academy in 1983, and appointed life peer (Labour) in the House of Lords in 2000. He was awarded a gold medal for lifetime achievement in 2008, and is a member of the bardic Gorsedd of the Welsh national eisteddfod.
