Waterloo fut de tous temps un lieu stratégique par sa situation : à la
lisière de la Forêt de Soignes, aux portes de Bruxelles. Ancien relais
postal, situé au cœur du village, le Musée Wellington servit de Quartier Général au duc de Wellington, commandant des Forces alliées les
17 et 18 juin 1815.
Ce musée retrace de manière didactique, à l’aide de gravures, d’armes, de documents et de superbes plans lumineux, le contexte politique de l’Europe avant et après la bataille, ainsi que le déroulement
des combats heure par heure.

postkoetsenpleisterplaats werd door de hertog van Wellington als
hoofdkwartier gekozen om op 18 juni 1815 de slag tegen Waterloo te
leveren. Deze is nu tot een museum omgebouwd.
U kunt er persoonlijke herinneringen van Wellington en van andere
helden, uniformen en wapens zien. Een uitstekend vertrekpunt om een
leerrijke uitstap aan het slagveld te brengen. Er is ook een
multimediazaal voorzien die u de ontwikkeling van de naam Waterloo
in de wereld uitlegt.

In 1815 the Duke of Wellington, commander of the Anglo-allied army,
set up his headquarters in the village of Waterloo. The former
coaching Inn, restored to its original dimensions, is now a museum
devoted to the ‘Hundred Days’.
Renseignements
It tells the story of the events leading up to Napoleon’s defeat at
Waterloo. Weapons, uniforms and documents can be seen in the
museum, as well as magnificent series of illuminated maps which
recount the different phases of the battle. Armed with a knowledge of
the main events of the battle and its historical context you are then
well prepared for a tour of the battlefield.

When on « Rue de Rosières » go down
till the next roundabout, then turn right.
You are in the “Rue de la Hulpe”,
continue straight on during 2.2 km. Take
left (after Shell & bridge) to join the
motorway E411 to Brussels. At crossing
‘Leonard’ take left - towards Waterloo
R0. Then follow the R0 till exit 28
‘Argenteuil’. Take right ‘Avenue Reine
