Après Harun Farocki et Leticia Ramos, le CAPC musée d’art
contemporain de Bordeaux poursuit sa programmation dédiée au
film et à la vidéo d’artiste et présente du 7 mai au 21 juin le film
Swallow, de l’artiste française Laure Prouvost.
Following Harun Farocki and Leticia Ramos, the CAPC musée d’art
contemporain de Bordeaux continues its programmation dedicated
to artists’ film and video and is presenting the film Swallow, by
French artist Laure Prouvost, from May 7th to June 21st.
L’Écran : entre ici et ailleurs présente des films et des vidéos
d’artistes internationaux de différentes générations qui explorent
des sujets politiques et sociaux tout en développant une
investigation continue de l’image. Se basant sur la tradition du
cinéma, du film expérimental ou structurel, ces œuvres engendrent
une réflexion sur les “politiques de l’image”. À travers un montage
spécifique, résultant d’une accumulation successive d’images ou un
cadrage simple, statique et frontal, ces films et vidéos détournent
les formes filmiques conventionnelles pour explorer le statut de
l’image et ses possibilités.
L’Écran : entre ici et ailleurs (The Screen: Between Here and
Elsewhere) presents films and videos by international artists of
different generations who are exploring political and social subjects
while developing an ongoing investigation of the image. Based on
the tradition of cinema and experimental film-making, these works
generate a reflection about the “politics of the image”. By way of
specific editing, resulting from a successive accumulation of images
or a simple static and frontal framing method, these works subvert
conventional film forms to explore the status of the image and its
possibilities.

successivement les œuvres de Harun Farocki (Allemagne), Leticia
Ramos (Brésil), Laure Prouvost (France), Vasco Araújo (Portugal),
Alexander Apóstol (Venezuela), LaToya Ruby Frazier (USA), Derek
Boshier (GB).
This programme will continue all year long, succesively presenting
artworks by Harun Farocki (Germany), Leticia Ramos (Brazil), Laure
Prouvost (France), Vasco Araújo (Portugal), Alexander Apóstol
(Venezuela), LaToya Ruby Frazier (USA), Derek Boshier (GB).
L’Écran : entre ici et ailleurs brings together works which focus on
diverse geographies with distinct social specific features. The title
also refers to the artist Harun Farocki, whose two-channel video
installation Comparison via a Third, 2007, opened the programme
in January 2015.
L’Écran : Entre ici et ailleurs rassemble des œuvres qui portent
sur des géographies diverses aux spécificités sociales distinctes.
Le titre fait également référence à l’artiste Harun Farocki, dont la
double vidéo projection Comparison via a Third (Comparaison via
un tiers), 2007, inaugurait ce programme en janvier 2015.

Dans ses vidéos, Laure Prouvost plonge le spectateur dans un
monde fictionnel. Souvent intégrées dans de vastes installations
qui incluent le dessin, le collage et des objets divers, ces courtes
vidéos aux aspects performatifs révèlent des associations d’images
incongrues. A travers une pratique spécifique du montage qui
comprend un enchaînement rapide de plans successifs, l’artiste
invente un langage vidéo qui lui est propre. L’accumulation et
l’assemblage d’images filmées deviennent un moyen performatif,
une matière première qui sert à construire la narration. La bande
son transmet la voix de l’artiste qui s’adresse directement aux
protagonistes du film ou même au spectateur et, par un jeu subtil
sur les mots, propose un exercice de réflexion à propos du langage
et de la compréhension.
In her videos, Laure Prouvost plunges the spectator in a fictional
world. Often inserted into large-scale installations including
drawings, collages, and a selection of various objects, the
works present performative aspects and reveal an association
of inconguous images. Through a specific editing method,
characterized by a fast succession of images, Prouvost creates
her own filmic language. The accumulation and the assemblage
of images are the primary material with which the artist builds
narratives. In the soundtrack the artist adresses both the film’s
protagonists and the spectator directly, and through a subtle play
on words, it offers a reflection about language and understanding.
Swallow (2013) was made by the artist following a residency
at the British School in Rome and at the Cittadellarte-Pistolletto
Foundation in Biella. The spectator discovers a poetic image
inspired by the pleasures of Italy and the tradition of the Grand
Tour made by artists in search of artistic inspiration. Prouvost pays
homage to painting in a sequence showing bathers in a waterfall
and with the representation of a young woman holding tree
leaves around her head as an aureola, evoking the virgins depicted
in Quattrocento paintings. Through play and humour, images
and sounds, Prouvost renders a joyful impression laced with
sensual evocations. Seduced by these collages of impressions, the
spectator is invited to question everyday sensations and his or her
own relation to nature and its amusements.
Swallow (2013) est une vidéo réalisée lors d’une résidence de
l’artiste à la British School de Rome et à la fondation CittadellartePistoletto de Biella.
On y découvre une poétique de l’image inspirée des plaisirs de
l’Italie et de la tradition du Grand Tour effectué par les artistes en
quête d’inspiration artistique. Un hommage à la peinture est rendu
à travers la représentation de baigneuses dans une clairière où
encore par l’image d’une femme aux feuilles d’arbres posées sur
la tête en guise d’auréole, image qui renvoie à la représentation
des vierges de la peinture du Quattrocento. Par le jeu et l’humour,
les images et les sons, Laure Prouvost parvient à rendre des
impressions joyeuses aux évocations sensuelles. Le spectateur,
séduit, réinvestit des sensations quotidiennes, la relation à la
nature et aux plaisirs via ces assemblages d’impressions.

Laure Prouvost (née en France en 1978) elle vit et travaille
à Londres. Elle est la lauréate du Turner Prize 2013 et du Max
Mara art Prize for Women, 2012. Elle a récemment exposé, entre
autres, au Neuer Berliner Kunstverein, Berlin, 2014 ;
au New Museum, New York, 2014 ; à la Whitechapel Gallery,
Londres, 2013 ; à la Tate Britain, Londres, 2013 ; au Hepworth,
Wakefield, 2012 et à Spike Island, Bristol, 2011.
Laure Prouvost (b. 1978) lives and works in London.
She was the recipient of the Turner Prize 2013 and the Max Mara

Elle a été commissaire associée à la South London Gallery de 2007

she ran the live art and film programme.
