Biography
Sarah Trouche is a French visual artist born in 1983, who lives in the Villa des Arts in
Paris. She studied Fine Arts in Paris and after graduating, she went on to complete
her education with a Masters in Fine Arts at the Art Center College in Los Angeles
(2007), a Masters in Performance Art at Goldsmith University, London (2008), and
more recently a Research Masters in Fine Arts at Sorbonne, Paris (2009).
Her art work and performances have been shown by independent curators and art
institutions in Los Angeles (2006), Taipei, Lijang (2006) and Beijing in China (2007,
2009 and 2011), in London (2008), Miami and New York in 2009 and 2010, in Paris at
the 104 museum (2010) and the ENSBA and also during numerous art residencies in
Tel Aviv (2009) and Jerusalem in Israel, in Milan (2010) in Berlin (2010) and in China
(2011).
Concept
Trouche’s works revolve around and emanate from her many encounters with
people living in both micro- and globalized societies. Her reflections on them reveal
anomalies, ambiguities, and social and political contradictions.
The artist’s principal media of expression are through performance, photography,
and video art. The main element present in most of her works is the female body,
often shown naked, but painted in one uniform color. This statement can be read as
an alarm signal towards the context of social and/or political distresses the artist is
referring to.
The works featured in the “Humans against Humiliation” exhibition are part of four
of her projects: “Action for China” (2011), “Action for Pyla Pyla” (2011), “the hôtel
particulier” (2011) and “Action in the mangrove” (2012).

Biographie
Sarah Trouche est une artiste plasticienne née en 1983, qui vit dans la Villa des Arts à
Paris. Elle poursuit ses études aux Beaux Arts d’où elle sort diplômée en 2007. Elle
complète sa formation lors d’un Master Masters in Fine Arts au Art Center College à
Los Angeles (2007), puis du Masters in Performance Art à l’Université Goldsmith à
Londres (2008), et plus récemment un Master de recherche en Art plastique à la
Sorbonne à Paris (2009).
Son oeuvre et performances ont été exposées par des curateurs indépendant et des
institutions artistiques à Los Angeles (2006), Taipei, Lijang (2006) et Beijing en Chine
(2007, 2009 and 2011), à Londres (2008), Miami et New York en 2009 et 2010, à
Paris au 104 museum (2010) et le ENSBA et pendant plusieurs résidences artistiques
à Tel Aviv (2009) et à Jerusalem en Israël, à Milan (2010), à Berlin (2010) et en Chine
(2011).
Concept
Son travail s’articule autour de nombreux voyages et expéditions qui l’amènent à
l’encontre de groupes allant de la micro – société à des sociétés mondialisées. Elle y
mène une réflexion critique qui révèlent les anomalies, les ambigüités, et
contradictions sociales et politiques qui s’y développent.
Ses supports d’expression sont principalement la performance, la photographie, et la
vidéo. L’élément principal présent dans la plupart de ses œuvres est le corps
féminin, souvent montré nu et paint dans une couleur uniforme. Ceci peut être
interprété comme un signal d’alerte par rapport au contexte social et politique
auquel réfère l’artiste.

Biografie
Sarah Trouche is een artiste plastische kunst geboren in 1983, die woont in de Villa
des Arts in Parijs. Zij studeert aan het Beaux Arts in Parijs waar zij haar diploma haalt
in 2007. Ze vervolledigt haar opleiding met een Master Masters in Fine Arts aan het
Art Center College te Los Angeles (2007), daarna een Masters in Performance Art
aan de Goldsmith University te Londen (2008), en meer recentelijk een Master de
recherche en Art plastique aan de Sorbonne in Paris (2009).
Haar werk en performances werden tentoongesteld door onafhankelijke curators en
kunstinstellingen in Los Angeles (2006), Taipei, Lijang (2006) en Beijing in China
(2007, 2009 en 2011), in Londen (2008), Miami en New York in 2009 en 2010, in
Parijs aan het 104 museum (2010) en de ENSBA en meerdere artistiek verblijven in
Tel Aviv (2009) en in Jerusalem in Israël, in Milaan (2010), in Berlin (2010) en in China
(2011).
Concept
Haar werk articuleert zich rond de vele reizen en expedities qui haar in contact
brengen met groepen gaande van een micro gemeenschap tot gemondialiseerde
gemeenschappen. Zij legt er een critische reflectie in die de anomalieën,
ambiguiteiten, en de sociale en politieke contradicties die er zich voordoen
blootlegt.
Haar voornaamste media zijn performance, fotografie, en video art. Het centrale
element in de meeste van haar werken is het vrouwelijke lichaam vaak naakt en
geschilderd in één uniforme kleur. Dit kan geïnterpreteerd worden als een
alarmsignaal ten aanzien van de sociale en politieke context waar de artiste naar
refereer.
