Specification for “Water for laboratory use”, Grade 1
Introduction
The PURELAB Option-R is a self-contained water purifier fed with mains water. It
produces highly purified water for general laboratory use, suitable for most
analytical, clinical, pharmaceutical and molecular biological applications.
Its product water conforms to BS3978/ISO 3696 Grade 1 specification

Method
A PURELAB Option-R 15 with boost pump was fed with mains water with a conductivity of
605µS/cm, hardness of 300ppm calcium carbonate and a TOC of 0.7ppmC. The unit was
operated intermittently to simulate typical use patterns.
Resistivity was logged on-line using a Thornton 200CR meter. Samples were taken for silica
analyses and absorbance measurements at various times.
Samples were analysed for silica by ICP-MS using a PlasmaQuad 3.
