BRASSAI By: Ryan Lawson HISTORY OF BRASSAI He was born in Transylvania on September 9th, 1899. He died in Nice, France on July 8th, 1984. His technique for photography was to use negatives. His favorite subject matters were prostitutes, pimps, madams, transvestites, apaches, and pleasure seekers. He was scornful of photography at first. He went to the art institutes of Budapest and Berlin. He was inspired by hid partner Andre Kertesz. He started to photograph the night of Paris. It was published in 1933, it was remarkable. HISTORY OF BRASSAI His technique to use would be to have glass based silver gelatin dry plate negatives. IMPACT ON SOCIETY: His pictures have come to be called 'the secret Paris of the 30's' are considered the core of his contribution to 20th-century art, and the selection of them now on display at the Marlborough Gallery. They aren't models or fashion icons. They are regular people just living their lives. I find it interesting that he could capture that in a single photo. RECREATIONS
