qui proclame ce qui est droit ! Rassemblez-vous, venez, approchez
tous, survivants des nations ! Ils sont dans l’ignorance, ceux qui
portent leurs idoles de bois, et qui adressent des prières à leur dieu
qui ne sauve pas. Exposez votre cas, présentez vos preuves, tenez
conseil entre vous : qui donc l’a d’avance révélé et jadis annoncé ?
N’est-ce pas moi, le Seigneur ? Hors moi, pas de Dieu ; de Dieu juste
et sauveur, pas d’autre que moi ! Tournez-vous vers moi : vous
serez sauvés, tous les lointains de la terre ! Oui, je suis Dieu : il n’en
est pas d’autre !

1. The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not be in want.
2. He makes me lie down in green pastures

Malheureux qui conteste celui qui l’a façonné, tesson parmi des
tessons de terre ! L’argile dira-t-elle à celui qui la façonne : « Que
fais-tu ? Ton ouvrage n’a pas de mains ! » Malheureux qui dit à un
père : « Qu’as-tu engendré ? » et à une femme : « Qu’as-tu mis au
monde ? » Ainsi parle le Seigneur, le Saint d’Israël, celui qui l’a
façonné : « Allez-vous m’interroger sur l’avenir de mes fils et me
donner des ordres pour l’œuvre de mes mains ? C’est moi qui ai fait
la terre et, sur elle, créé l’homme. Moi, de mes mains j’ai déployé les
cieux, et donné des ordres à toute leur armée. Ainsi parle le Seigneur,
le Créateur des cieux, lui, le Dieu qui fit la terre et la façonna, lui qui
l’affermit, qui l’a créée, non pas comme un lieu vide, mais qui l’a
façonnée pour être habitée : « Je suis le Seigneur : il n’en est pas
d’autre ! Quand j’ai parlé, je ne me cachais pas quelque part dans
l’obscurité de la terre ; je n’ai pas dit aux descendants de Jacob :
Cherchez-moi dans le vide ! Je suis le Seigneur qui profère la justice,

SECOND LESSON / DEUXIÈME LECTURE Luke3:7-18
(English translation)
John said to the crowds that came out to be baptized by him, "You
brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
Bear fruits worthy of repentance. Do not begin to say to yourselves,
'We have Abraham as our ancestor'; for I tell you, God is able from
these stones to raise up children to Abraham. Even now the ax is
lying at the root of the trees; every tree therefore that does not bear
good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire." And the crowds
asked him, "What then should we do?" In reply he said to them,
"Whoever has two coats must share with anyone who has none; and
whoever has food must do likewise." Even tax collectors came to be
baptized, and they asked him, "Teacher, what should we do?" He
said to them, "Collect no more than the amount prescribed for you."
Soldiers also asked him, "And we, what should we do?" He said to
them, "Do not extort money from anyone by threats or false
accusation, and be satisfied with your wages." As the people were
filled with expectation, and all were questioning in their hearts
concerning John, whether he might be the Messiah, John answered
all of them by saying, "I baptize you with water; but one who is more
powerful than I is coming; I am not worthy to untie the thong of his
sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. His
winnowing fork is in his hand, to clear his threshing floor and to
gather the wheat into his granary; but the chaff he will burn with
unquenchable fire." So, with many other exhortations, he proclaimed
the good news to the people.
