Restoring the houses of
Palestinian families in Nahr el
Bared New Camp
This program is running thanks to funds from the German Embassy in Lebanon and
the Fondations Architectes de l’urgence.
Objective
The objective of this program is to assist the quick return of Palestinian refugees to Nahr
El Bared (new) camp by restoring their homes under safe living conditions.
This Project includes:
▶ Securing the buildings for the inhabitants and their neighbors
▶ Helping to re-establish a habitable room for the family
▶ Ensuring an active participation of the target beneficiaries
▶ Hiring of local staff
Setting safety
The project started the 6th of March 2008 with a team of 5 workers (including the chief of
workers), who demolish and remove the dangerous parts after having set up a safety
zone with caution tape.
Sheltering
The objective is to provide a shelter to the families whose house has been secured.
To help the most in need and give them better support, we decided to classify the units
by priority.
That led to a selection of 18 buildings in which AU will make a shelter. One of our
architect is following up the works and we are providing masonry materials and advices.
Now
▶ The 31st of March, 17 buildings have been secured, that touches 56 inhabitants,
241 neighbours and around 8000 pedestrians per day.
▶ The 10th of April, we start the distribution for sheltering in 4 buildings.
▶ We are working with 12 local staff and 11 are from the camp of Nahr El Bared.
