Anna Marrison advocates for healthcare organizations and their staff in civil law suits. In
addition to appearing before all levels of civil courts in Ontario, Anna has appeared
before administrative tribunals, including the Health Professionals Appeal and Review
Board in relation to physician privileging disputes, regulatory colleges in relation to
complaints against health professionals, and the Consent and Capacity Board
regarding findings on capacity to make admission and treatment decisions.

Anna regularly advises health care clients on health-related legislation, including the
Quality of Care Information Act, the Personal Health Information Protection Act and the
Health Care Consent Act. She provides advice on a wide range of health related issues,
including the release of personal information to third parties in such contexts as police
investigations, regulatory college proceedings and litigation. She provides advice in the
context of complex and challenging consent scenarios, including end of life decisionmaking, pediatric care and discharge to long-term care.
REPRESENTATIVE WORK

Acts for hospitals, healthcare clinics, and municipalities and their employees in
medical malpractice and other civil lawsuits.

Represents hospitals on physician privileges issues before the Health
Professionals Appeal and Review Board.

Advises healthcare clients on the review and disclosure of adverse events.

Advises healthcare clients with drafting and updating policies and protocols, on
such topics as police communications, surrogacy births, use of blood products,
and mandatory reporting by healthcare providers.

Represented a hospital at the Court of Appeal on the appeal of a summary
judgment motion Persaud v. Rzadki, 2014 ONCA 693 (CanLII).

Represented a hospital and its nursing staff at trial arising from post-operative
care Spirito v. Trillium Health Centre, 2013 ONSC 5138 (CanLII).

Represented a hospital and its nursing staff at trial arising from postpartum
complications Mangal v. William Osler Health Centre, 2013 ONSC 5276
