home and its beautiful gardens which were recently named a stop on the War of 1812
Peace Garden Trail and the International Peace Garden Trail.

The Kent-Delord House was built in 1797 and was home to the Delord family between
1810 and 1913. Before the Battle of Plattsburgh, the Delord family fled the house,
which was used as the British headquarters during the significant battle. Inside see a
mess chest left behind by the British officers, portaits of Henry and Betsey Delord, a
case clock and other furniture belonging to Henry, a silver tea service which the family
claimed Betsey buried in the garden before the British arrived, and other furnishings
from throughout the 19th century.

When the Kent-Delord House Garden Club was formed in 1986 they gathered information from diaries, correspondence, historical records, maps and photographs to
recreate the original design of the gardens, which can be seen today.

Next head across the street to the shores of Lake Champlain and see the Champlain Monument, lined with information regarding Lake Champlain and its discovery.

A short walk from there is McDonough Monument, this 135-ft. monument was built in
1926 to honor Commodore Macdonough's victory over the British fleet in the Battle of
Plattsburgh, and the Confiance anchor. Shot away from its rail on the British flagship Confiance during the initial minutes of the two hour naval ordeal of the Battle of Plattsburgh,
the anchor was raised in 1996 at 13 feet long, 8 feet across at the flukes, and 14 feet
across its wooden stock, it is the largest anchor ever recovered from Lake Champlain.

Enjoy a leisurely lunch at a local favorite, Irises Café and Wine Bar, which features great
Mediterranean and Americana cuisines and serves local wines and delicious cupcakes for

Finally, head minutes south of Plattsburgh and visit the Museum Campus, located on the
Former Plattsburgh Airforce Base, featuring the War of 1812 Museum, the Champlain
Valley Transportation Museum, and the Clinton County Historical Association, which are
all within walking distance to each other and share their own unique stories of the Adirondack Coast’s history.

After a visit to these three museums, your group can either head home, or stop for dinner
at Legend’s Bistro and Wine Bar/Plattsburgh Brewing Company. This bistro features several local brews all commemorating the War of 1812, including Plucky Rooster Ale, the

Kent-Delord House a été construite en 1797 et fut la résidence de la famille Delord entre
1810 et 1913. Avant la Bataille de Plattsburgh, la famille Delord s'est enfuie et les troupes
britanniques l'ont utilisée comme quartier général pendant cette bataille significative. À


