New Theme -‐ Responsibility Our fourth of five essential values for École Laronde was introduced to students during an assembly on Thursday. Classes will explore the concept of responsibility for oneself, at school, and at home – what does it look like, what does it sound like? We are including an activity that you can do at home with your family further down. Parking Tip of the Week A reminder to all parents and adults dropping off and picking up students that all of Amble Green Drive around the school area and on both sides of the road is a no parking, no stopping zone. It is very important for everyone’s safety that pick up/drop off not take place close to the marked crosswalk as it impedes sight lines. We are including the signage map that covers the area around the school further down. PLEASE RESPECT THE SIGNAGE ON THE ROADS! Merci! We are in the process of training more grade 6 and 7 students to help at the crosswalks on both Laronde and Amble Green Drives. If your child is interested, please have him/her contact Mme Fortin. Looking For a New Team Name Students are invited to submit a new team name for École Laronde – a name that best represents our school now in its third year as a single-‐track French Immersion school! The name must be spelled the same way in English and French; be a good symbol for our school; and if possible have a connection with our new mission statement. The suggestion must be submitted using the form included further down, and include a short statement explaining why this name would be a good name for our school. Deadline: Thursday, February 13 at noon. Our Nouveau Laronde committee will prepare a short list from the suggestions and students will vote for their favourite team name the following week. This is the equivalent of 50 bricks towards building a new school in Sierra Leone. Next week, in the spirit of Valentine's Day, students will be selling home-‐made Valentine's day cards. The cards will be for sale Wednesday to Friday at lunch recess at the main door to each playground. Cards are $1.50 each. Students can include a candy or chocolate for $0.50 more, for a total of $2. Thank you for your continued support of our Free The Children initiatives. Badminton coach As soon as the basketball season is over in two weeks, our badminton season will begin. Unlike other team sports, badminton is open to grades 5 as well as grades 6 and 7. Mme Knoll is looking for help in coaching the students as they will be divided in two teams: 5 & 6, and 7. Practice times can be adjusted to your availabilities. Please contact the office or Mme Knoll directly. Here are some optional at home activities your family can do to further enhance the topic of responsibility: 1. Have your children make a list of their responsibilities within your family as well as parent responsibilities. 2.
