As the successful year 2014 moves to its end, we are glad to address you with
this newsletter to present a feed-back on our activities and enlighten you about
our plans for 2015.
As a matter of fact, we could lead a lot of interesting activities to enhance the
academic exchange between Germany and Cameroon. A highlight of the year
was the 1st German higher education fair that took place in Yaoundé in June.
With the effective participation of five German universities, we offered the Cameroonian students an exchange platform together with our partners of the forum
“Study in Germany”. Before this event, we held an information day on “Research
in Germany” with contributions of several organisations and foundations promoting university research.
At the regional level, the Information Centre offered scholarships to two excellent
students from the Central African Republic to do a full doctorate in Germany and
two young Congolese students are reading German studies at the Higher Teachers’ Training College in Yaoundé in order to obtain a degree that will enable
them to work as German teachers in their home country.
During this year, we could sponsor many initiatives from our Alumni and we intend to continue this cooperation in 2015.
As the DAAD motto of the year 2015 will be: International - Innovative - Inspired,
we encourage alumni to conceive projects on that topic. We may find a way to
realise them together.
La campagne d’année 2015 du DAAD: “International - Innovateur – Inspiré”
nous servira de leitmotiv pour mener avec votre brillante participation et collaboration des projets porteurs. Nous savons pouvoir compter sur les partenariats
très angagés avec les universités et institutions camerounaises pour porter haut
l’étendard d’une cooperation scientifique et universitaire variée.
Sur cette note, nous vous prions d’accepter nos meilleurs voeux pour vous et
vos familles pour la fin d’année 2014 et une excellente année 2015.

Logistics – a new area of cooperation between
University of Ngaoundéré and University of Bremen: a successful
second working visit to Bremen
A new bachelor program in logistics is opened! Prof. Victor Tsapi and his colleagues Dr. Marie Noel Assene, Dr.
Nadege Gouanlong and Dr. Paul Djeumene from the University of Ngaoundéré came to Bremen for two-weeks-long
working visit on 18th of November. It was the third come together since the start of the joint four-year long project between both universities “International Logistics Qualification between Ngaoundéré and Bremen”. The aim of the project is a setting up of a joint academic degree programme in logistics. The joint initiative is sponsored by the DAAD
program “Subject-related partnerships with universities in developing countries”.
The first week of working visit was mainly devoted to different appointments with other faculties of the University of
Bremen since there are also other joint initiatives in other disciplines between two universities. That is also one of the
reasons why Ngaoundéré is considered to be one of strategic regions for University of Bremen in terms of its internalization strategy. Thus, the representatives of Ngaoundéré University met Dr. Annette Lang, the director of the International Office as well as Dr. Astrid Buschmann-Göbels to discuss the possible project synergies taking the experience
of the Foreign Language Center and the International Office of the University of Bremen.
During the second week the team from Ngaoundéré introduced its region in North Cameroon from the point of intermodal transport infrastructure during the regular lecture “Transportation corridors and multimodal transport” to bachelor and master students in Business Administration and Business Engineering at the University of Bremen.
Additionally, both working teams met together
to discuss the future project steps. One of
them is to organize lecturing combined with
academic excursion to selected logistic companies in Yaoundé or Douala in the first part of
February 2015 for students of new bachelor
program in logistics at the University of
Ngaoundéré.
About 20 students of this new programme will
have the opportunity to get an insight into practical worlds of transport and logistics from the very begin of the studying program. Furthermore, curricula and “train the trainer” concept were further outlined to be realized in February
2015.
Finally, in November 26-28 the University of Ngaoundéré team participated at the 3rd International Symposium on
Innovative Logistics Management, which was jointly launched by the Institute of Shipping Economics and Logistics
(the associated partner of the project) and the Guangxi University from China. The overall core topic of this symposium was sustainable and innovative solutions for efficient traffic systems and logistics processes in global supply
chains. It was possible for colleagues from Cameroon to share knowledge
and experience within seven thematic sessions with about 40 speakers
from Vietnam, China, Laos, Germany, Estonia, and Thailand. Prof. Tsapi
and his team joined the half-day-long academic excursion to the container
terminal of the seaport in Bremerhaven as a completion of the third working
visit.
This working visit to Bremen confirmed once again that there is a strong will
on both sides for a long-lasting fruitful partnership between University of
Bremen and University of Ngaoundéré in the area of logistics!

Call for Applications

DIES Proposal writing Course for young researchers,
Yaounde 2015
The course is part of the DIES (Dialogue on Innovative Higher Education Strategies) programme of the
German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the German Rectors’ Conference (HRK). The aim of
ProGRANT Proposal Writing for Research Grants is to train researchers and young PhD holders in developing a promising research proposal for national or international research funding (every participant will
have the opportunity to tailor their application to the funding institution of their choice). Researchers from
all disciplines can apply for this course.
The course is organised by the University of Cologne and will take place in Yaoundé.
Course language: French Application Period: December 15th, 2014- February 8th, 2015
Participating Countries: Cameroon, Gabon, Republic of Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo

teilnehmen möchten, können einen Zuschuss zu den Reisekosten sowie eine Erstattung des IVGMitgliedsbeitrags (als Teilnahmegebühr) bei ihrer jeweiligen Förderinstitution beantragen. Einzelheiten

Soirée thématique et récréative des alumni à Yaoundé , 4 décembre 2014
Sur invitation du DAAD Kamerun, les anciens boursiers DAAD et les anciens d’Allemagne se sont réunis au Goethe-Institut de Yaoundé pour une
rencontre à caractère thématique et récréatif. Il s’est agi de discuter des
questions brûlantes de l’heure telles que les énergies renouvelables et la
maladie à virus Ebola. Les exposés présentés respectivement par Mme
Lydie Kamdom et le Dr. Marcus Fokou ont été très appréciés du public.
Tous les participants ont pu, au-delà de leurs disciplines respectives,
s’informer sur ces sujets afin d’adopter des comportements adéquats. S’il
est vrai que la production et la distribution de l’énergie constitue un sujetclé de la vie quotidienne, le virus Ebola, bien que n’ayant jamais été repéré au Cameroun alimente bien des débats et engendre la psychose tant
dans les milieux médicaux que sociaux.
À la suite des deux intervenants thématiques, le public a pu poser des questions ou faire
des partages d’expérience. C’est alors que le réseau d’anciens
boursiers DAAD « SENEC » qui s’active essentiellement dans le
domaine des énergies renouvelables a été présenté. De vives discussions ont été menées sur l’origine du virus Ebola et la réaction
du corps médical et des scientifiques face à ce mortel virus.
Par la suite, Jacques Onya, ancien
boursier DAAD a eu l’occasion de
présenter un projet Alumni tenu à
Doumé en Septembre 2014 et qui
portait sur la réhabilitation des vestiges coloniales de cette ville. Dans
ce cadre, un voyage d’étude de deux
jours a été financé partiellement par
le DAAD en droite ligne de ses programmes pour Alumni dont M.
Kahnert, directeur du DAAD Kamerun a pu décliner la quintessence
dans un exposé bref et riche. En effet, le DAAD soutient les initiatives de
ses anciens boursiers s’ils se mettent ensemble pour concevoir des projets communs dans leurs domaines de compétences. En cette année
2014, diverses rencontres ont pu être financées entièrement ou partiellement. C’est le cas de la Conférence d’Algèbre à l’Université de Dschang,
la conférence-hommage au Prof. Breitinger à l’université de Yaoundé I,
l’Alumni-Denkfabrik en partenariat avec le Goethe-Institut, le DAW et
autres.

Urbanisation en Afrique
L’Alumni-Denkfabrik discute sur un défi majeur
400 millions d’Africains, soit 40%de la population vivent aujourd’hui en ville, chiffre qui augmentera jusqu’à 60% d’ici
2050. Il est évident que cette énorme évolution donne du fil à retordre à tous les acteurs concernés. Voilà pourquoi plusieurs dizaines d’experts de plusieurs pays d’Afrique ont débattu les 14 novembre et 12 décembre au Centre pour la
Coopération Scientifique entre l’Afrique et l’Allemagne (DAW) à Yaoundé sur ce thème majeur que représente l’urbanisation. Ceci dans le cadre de l’Alumni-Denkfabrik zu Kultur, Bildung und Entwicklung, un think tank crée par le GoetheInstitut et dont le DAAD Kamerun est partenaire.
Ainsi, des anciens boursiers camerounais du DAAD comme des géographes ou des ingénieurs ont répondu présents et
contribué à la réussite de l’événement. Le 12 décembre, ils ont participé au nombre de 15, entre autres le professeur
Lawrence Fon Fombe de l’Université de Buea avec une conférence sur le thème de Challenges of Urbanisation: Domains of intervention and required competences. Cette seconde des deux rencontres de la Denkfabrik en fin d’année
avait pour but de définir les axes de réflexion pour l’an prochain ainsi que des activités et des projets pratiques pour
contribuer au développement des villes du Cameroun. A cet effet, plusieurs groupes de travail se sont interrogés sur
« culture et urbanisation », « les nouvelles technologies », « savoir et action » ainsi que la « gouvernance ».
Rendez-vous donc en 2015 !
