SCHURR, G., "Dictionnaire des Petits Maîtres de la peinture: 1820-1920", Les éditions de l'amateur, Paris, 1996 Artist Biography : Ernest Blanc-Garin was a French painter of genre scenes, portraits, views of city and landscape history. He was a pupil of Jean-François Portaels in 1863 and Alexandre Cabanel in Paris where he exhibited at the Paris Salon beginning in 1868. He visited Italy and then settled in Brussels in 1871 where he opened a private Academy and many pupils including Jean Evenepoel, Jean van den Eeckhoudt and Louis Crespin. In 1891, he became one of the founding members of the "Société des Beaux-Arts de Bruxelles".
