Intended Use
Intended Use
The YELU01-YM … energy limiting unit is an
interface for connecting an intrinsically safe
scale (e.g. PMA7501-X) to a nonincendive device
(e.g. personal computer) within the hazardous
(classified) area Class I, Division 2 via a cable with
two data lines (e.g. T×D and R×D).

repair of the equipment.

Safety and Warning Instructions
The energy-limiting unit may be connected to
intrinsically safe scales with safety level “ia” and
set up in Class I, Division 1 Group C or D or in
Class I, Zone 0, Group IIB areas, as well as to
intrinsically safe scales with safety level “ib” and
set up in Class I, Zone 1, Group IIB areas. The
energy-limiting unit itself must be installed
outside the hazardous area!
All equipment must be installed in accordance
with applicable laws, rules, regulations and
standards by authorized personnel.
For instructions on installation, operation,
maintenance and repair, please refer to the
instruction manuals supplied with all associated
equipment provided in the scope of delivery.
Be sure to operate the connected equipment
within the temperature range specified.
The energy-limiting unit of the YELU01-YM …
series meets the requirements for electro
magnetic compatibility and electrical safety.
Compliance with other properties and requirements is not guaranteed. Improper use may
cause personal injury and/or property damage.
The energy-limiting unit may be used inside or
outside of buildings.
The energy-limiting unit may not be used as a
portable device.
The energy-limited unit may only be operated
within a temperature range of –20°C to +40°C
(-4°F to +104°F) and may not be exposed to
unapproved heat sources, cooling devices or to
the cold, sunlight, UV radiation or vibration. The
energy-limiting unit must be installed so that
heat can sufficiently dissipate from all around

Safety and Warning Instructions the unit and external heat sources are located
at an appropriate distance from the unit. Before
connecting devices to the energy-limiting unit,
be sure to unplug these devices from AC power
(mains supply). Do not connect or disconnect
the data cable plug (male connector) when the
power is on or when the equipment is still
connected to AC power! The intrinsically safe
cable of the energy-limiting unit (to the scale)
must not exceed 52 m (172 ft.) and is preinstalled by the manufacturer. For operational
reasons, the length is limited to 30 m (approx.
98 ft.).
Do not open or attempt to repair the energylimiting unit as this is expressly prohibited. The
only exception is that you may repair the plugs
on both ends of cables. Do not attempt to
shorten the cables! No modifications whatsoever
may be made to the equipment.
The plant operator shall be responsible for
preventing danger or risks due to the buildup
of static electricity. Proper installation must be
carried out to avoid leakage or stray currents
(e.g., caused by magnetic fields) from affecting
the equipment. Do not expose the equipment
to voltage transients!
Keep chemicals that can damage the cable
sheathing away from the equipment. These
include oil, vegetable and animal fat, gasoline,
benzene, chlorinated and aromatic solvents,
alkalis and acids, acetone and ozone. If you are
unsure about the chemical compatibility, be
sure to contact the manufacturer for help.

Have your equipment installation checked at
appropriate intervals by trained specialists to
ensure its proper functioning and safety.
If the equipment is not functioning properly,
immediately disconnect it from AC power
(mains supply)!
Any modifications to the device (except by
persons authorized by Sartorius) cause loss of
conformity for use in explosion-risk areas and
invalidate all warranty claims.
Any modifications to this equipment by anyone,
including Sartorius employees, require the prior
written permission of Sartorius.
These safety instructions and warnings, in
addition to the responsibilities of the operator
for the installation, operation and testing of the
equipment, shall apply in accordance with the
valid legal requirements and national electrical
code of the respective country of installation
and as such shall not release the operator from
any of these responsibilities.

Installation
Installation
The energy limiting unit must be installed
outside the hazardous (classified) area and have
a fixed connection to the equipotential bonding
conductor (PA) to which the intrinsically safe
scale is also connected.
Tightly affixing the energy limiting unit (e.g. to
a wall using the four cover plate mounting
holes) is recommended so as not to subject the
potential connection to any mechanical stress.
The connection to the PA must have a low
impedance rating.

Installation
For this, the operator of the system must
connect a conductor with a cross section of at
least 4 mm2 in a suitable place using suitable
mounting materials (screws). If a flexible
conductor is used, then it must have a ring
terminal for a secure connection and care must
be taken during installation to ensure that the
conductor connection cannot loosen due to
intentional or unintentional movement of the
conductor. During on-site installation, check if
these connections to the potential equalization
busbar are correct and of low impedance, and
recheck at regular intervals. It is assumed that
all circuits are grounded (equipotential
bonding).

A 2 m cable is used to connect the YELU01-YMx s
(x = 2, 8, 15 or 30) energy limiting unit to a
non-intrinsically safe device, such as a personal
computer.
The intrinsically safe output cable to the intrinsically safe scale is xm (x = 8, 15 or 30) long and
connects to the intrinsically safe scale via a
9-pin D-Sub socket.

Note:
1) In the USA: Installation must be carried out in accordance with the National Electrical Code®, NFPA 70, Article
504 or 505 and ANSI / ISA-RP 12.6.
In Canada: Installation must be carried out in accordance with the Canadian Electrical Code®, Part1, Section 18.
2) The device must be connected to other devices using nonincendive field wiring.
3) In the USA: The apparatus must be connected to a suitable ground electrode as per National Electrical Code®,

L’unité de limitation d’énergie de la série
YELU01-YM … est une interface permettant de
connecter une balance à sécurité intrinsèque
(par ex. PMA7501-X) à un appareil non
inflammable (par ex. un ordinateur portable) à
l’aide d’un câble non inflammable connecté au
YELU01-YM … dans la zone (classée) dangereuse
de classe I, division 2 avec un câble et deux lignes
de données, notamment T×D et R×D).
Consignes de sécurité
Ces consignes s’appliquent à l’installation,
à l’utilisation, à l’entretien et à la réparation
de l’appareil.
REMARQUE
Cet équipement peut être utilisé uniquement
dans les zones de Classe I, Divison 2, de Groupes
CD et non dangereuses.
Par conséquent, l’unité de limitation d’énergie
peut être connectée à des balances à sécurité
intrinsèque au niveau de protection « ia » et
montée dans des zones de Classe I, Division 1
Groupe C or D dans de Classe I, Zone 0, Groupe
IIB. De plus, il est aussi possible de connecter
des balances à sécurité intrinsèque au niveau de
protection « ib ». Le montage est autorisé dans
les zones de Classe I, Zone 1, Groupe IIB.

L’unité de limitation d’énergie elle-même, doit
être installée pour cela en dehors de la zone à
atmosphères explosibles !
L’installation doit être réalisée par un spécialiste
agréé, conformément à la réglementation, aux
dispositions, aux ordonnances et aux normes en
vigueur. Observer impérativement les recommandations d’installation, d’utilisation, d’entretien et de réparation contenues dans les modes
d’emploi fournis avec les appareils ! Tenir
compte de la plage de températures des
appareils raccordés !
L’installation doit être réalisée par un spécialiste
agréé, conformément à la réglementation, aux
dispositions, aux ordonnances et aux normes
en vigueur. Par ailleurs, l’unité de limitation
d’énergie de la gamme YELU01-YM… satisfait
aux exigences de compatibilité électromagnétique et de sécurité électrique. Le respect
d’autres propriétés et exigences n’est pas assuré.
Toute utilisation non conforme peut entraîner
des dommages matériels et corporels.
L’unité de limitation d’énergie peut être utilisée
à l’intérieur et à l’extérieur des bâtiments.
L’unité de limitation d’énergie ne doit pas être
utilisée comme appareil portable.
Utiliser l’unité de limitation d’énergie uniquement dans la plage de températures de –20 °C
à +40 °C (–4 °F à +104 °F), ne pas l’exposer à
des sources de chaleur ou de froid non autorisées, aux rayons directs du soleil, aux rayons UV
et aux vibrations. L’installer de manière à

permettre la dissipation de la chaleur, à une
distance suffisante des sources de chaleur
externes.
Avant de connecteur l’unité de limitation
d’énergie aux appareils prévus, les débrancher
de l’alimentation secteur. Les câbles de données
ne doivent pas être branchés ou débranchés
sous tension !
Le câble de données à sécurité intrinsèque de
l’unité de limitation d’énergie (vers la balance)
ne doit pas dépasser 52 m et est disposé par
le fabricant. Pour des raisons fonctionnelles, la
longueur est limitée à 30 m.
Il est interdit d’ouvrir l’unité de limitation
d’énergie ! Une réparation n’est par conséquent
pas autorisée. Excepté les connecteurs aux deux
extrémités de câble. Les câbles peuvent être
raccourcis. Des modifications ne doivent pas
être apportées ! L’opérateur de l’équipement
doit prévenir les risques de décharges électrostatiques. L’installation adéquate doit permettre
d’éviter les courants parasités (par ex. générés
par des champs magnétiques). Maintenir
éloigné de l’appareil tout phénomène transitoire
de tension ! Les produits chimiques qui risquent
d’attaquer les gaines des câbles doivent être
maintenus à distance de l’appareil. Il s’agit
notamment de l’huile, des graisses végétales et
animales, de l’essence, des solvants chlorés et
aromatiques, des acides et solutions alcalines,
de l’acétone et de l’ozone. En cas de doutes,
s’adresser au fabricant.

Faire vérifier régulièrement le fonctionnement
et la sécurité de l’appareil par un spécialiste.
Si l’équipement ne fonctionne pas correctement, le débrancher du secteur !
Toute intervention dans l’appareil (sauf par le
personnel autorisé de Sartorius) entraîne la
perte de la conformité Ex et l’annulation de la
garantie.
Les modifications (même celles apportées par les
employés de Sartorius) sont autorisées uniquement après accord écrit.
Ces informations sont complémentaires et ne
déchargent pas l’opérateur de sa responsabilité
lors de l’installation, de l’utilisation et du
contrôle de l’installation, conformément aux
dispositions en vigueur dans son pays
d’utilisation.

Installation
L’unité de limitation d’énergie doit être installée
pour cela en dehors de la zone à atmosphères
explosibles et solidement reliée à la compensation de potentiel (PA) auquel est également
reliée la balance à sécurité intrinsèque associée.
Afin d’éviter une contrainte mécanique au
niveau du raccordement de potentiel, on
recommande de visser solidement l’unité de
limitation d’énergie (par ex. à un mur via les
4 trous de fixation du cache de protection).
Le raccordement à la PA doit avoir une
impédance basse.

Installation
L’opérateur doit raccorder un conducteur d’une
section minimale de 4 mm2 à l’emplacement
correspondant.
Pour cela, utiliser des outils de montage (vis).
Si un conducteur souple est utilisé, celui-ci doit
être équipé d’un œillet de fixation. L’installation
doit empêcher le débranchement du conducteur
en cas de déplacement involontaire ou volontaire du conducteur. La faible impédance et le
branchement adéquat de cette connexion aux
rails de compensation de potentiel doivent être
contrôlés régulièrement lors de l’installation sur
site du système. Du point de vue de la sécurité,
on part du principe que tous les circuits
électriques sont reliés à la terre
(équipotentialité).

L’unité de limitation d’énergie de la série
YELU01-YMx s (x = 2, 8, 15 ou 30) est branchée
via un câble de 2 m avec un appareil qui n’est
pas à sécurité intrinsèque (un PC par ex.).
Le câble de sortie à sécurité intrinsèque vers la
balance à sécurité intrinsèque est d’une

Conditions of Use:
1.
In Class I, Division 2 installations, the YELU01-YM shall be mounted within a tool-secured
secondary enclosure which is capable of accepting one or more of the Class I, Division 2 wiring
methods specified in the National Electrical Code (ANSI/NFPA 70). Alternatively, the equipment
may be installed without the aforementioned secondary enclosure using the nonincendive field
wiring concept in accordance with installation drawing 2031603.
2.
The YELU01-YM shall be installed in accordance with the Control Drawing 2031603.
3.
The YELU01-YM the Universal Weighing unit and the power supply, if not galvanically isolated,
shall be connected to the same intrinsically safe ground. The resistance of this connection shall be
no greater than 1 ohm.
