Par ailleurs, les thèmes scientifiques fondamentaux du domaine végétal seront aussi traités dans le
cadre notamment du volet « formation » et du volet « recherche »,
Volet 1 . Formation
Training in alpha-taxonomy is absolutely essential. Aspects of alpha-taxonomy which would help
include:
Use of online bibliographic resources
1
Use of mapping programs
Assessing threats to species according to IUCN criteria
Writing descriptions of taxa
Lao PDR has no experts in Ferns and fern allies, Fungi, Lichens, Bryophyta, and very few in Algae. It
would be useful to be trained in these major groups of plants.
Volet 2. Séminaires
More meetings of the Flore du Cambodge, du Laos et du Vietnam would be a great help. It is very
stimulating to meet so many Indo-Chine and global botanists working on the same flora and to
exchange ideas.
Volet 3. Appui aux réseaux et aux collections
Support for networks established during SEP1 would help to complete revisions for Flore CLV and
other publications. Existing networks include the Bambusoideae group and the Zingiberaceae group.
Volet 4. Recherche
Support for research is very important, as it is not funded by the Lao government or, if it is funded,
then the funding is very little. It is important to continue using and developing skills learned during
post-graduate training and previous SEP projects. For example, I worked on SEP 350, and would like a
new SEP project to concentrate on the Zingiberaceae of central and northern Indochina.
It would be valuable to be able to choose small plant families to be revised for the Flore du
Cambodge, du Laos et du Vietnam. This could be done by individuals while the larger families could
be undertaken by networks.
Volet 5. Expertise
The plant Taxonomy, Ethnobotany, Geography , Bio-informatic and plant database needed e.g. The
Zingiberaceae, Orchidaceae, Conifer and ethnobotany (Medicinal Plant)(Dr. Vichith Lamxay, National
University of Laos) ; The Dipterocarpaceae, Styracaceae and Orchidaceae (Dr. Bouakhaykhone
Svengsuksa). The Rubiaceae, Menispermaceae (Soulivanh Larnorsavanh, National University of
Laos) ; The Fabaceae/Papillionoidae (Mrs Khamfa Chanthavong, National University of Laos). The
Algea (Dr. Somchanh Bounphanmy, National University of Laos). The fungi (Dr. Pheng Phengsintham,
National University of Laos) The Rattan and Bamboo (Sounthonh Khetphanh and Khamphone
