1) z.B. Proper and safe operation of tank weighing modules is conditional on proper transport, storage, setting up and installation as well as careful operation and maintenance. It is essential to comply with the relevant accident prevention regulations. In particular you must take into account the limit loads given in the ESM1 specifications. NOTE If the environmental conditions are unclear, HBM recommends that once the load cells and tank weighing modules are fitted, they are given an additional protective coating that is adapted to the conditions, to prevent attack from aggressive media. Allow for the resistance of the cable material and the elastomer elements, where applicable. HBM A1135-40 de/en/fr 15 ESM1 9 General HBM offers the Economic Silo Mount Kit in nominal load of 5 t. It is designed primarily for use in level monitoring and for tank weighing applications and are made from ductile steel. Strain gages are hermetically sealed against environmental effects by laser-welded metal enclosures, so that they can be used in exposed outdoor locations. The surface is protected against corrosion by a multilayered coating. The distinguishing feature of the material used for the connection cable is that it is not to the taste of rodents. This means that it is highly unlikely that mice or rats will bite through the cable if it is being used in an agricultural area. Despite its simple design, ESM1 can take on the following functions in addition to weighing, without requiring any additional accessories: • compensating for thermal expansion • taking up horizontal forces • lift--off securing device The ESM1 comprises a specially worked one-piece section of an I-beam, with fastening holes on the upper and lower flanges. This provides for direct screwing to a foundation or other load-bearing sub-floor and the container base. No other components are required. A1135-40 de/en/fr HBM 16 10 ESM1 Mounting preparations • Care must be taken to ensure that all surfaces for setting up and installation are clean, smooth and level. Depending on the installation conditions, any leveling error can be compensated for by using suitable wedges and compensation plates (permanently welded) or by grinding away the mounting surface, for example. In no case shall the flange plates of the ESM1 be resurfaced by grinding. • The base or foundation frame must be sufficiently rigid to prevent unacceptable deformation under load (such as sagging). • To provide for an installation free from constraining forces, the fastening holes on the foundation frame and container joint must be suitably aligned. • If the container bases are long and have insufficient inherent rigidity, putting these under load may, depending on the design, also exert constraining forces on the ESM1 in a horizontal direction. To keep these influences to a minimum, it is recommended to arrange the ESM1 in such a way that any forces produced are diverted lengthwise along the web of the beam. • Every effort has to be made to ensure uniform loading on the support points. Care should be taken to adjust the height on the support points correctly (compensating shims need to be available). This is especially important in the case of statically undefined supports. HBM A1135-40 de/en/fr 17 ESM1 11 Installation • When installing the container attention must be paid to ensuring that no sudden heavy loads are applied to the ESM1, for instance when lowering it onto the supports. Even transient loads can damage the load cell if they exceed its limit values. • When containers are heavy or installation conditions are unfavorable, the use of installation aids such as auxiliary supports or lifting equipment is recommended. • The upper and lower flange plates of the ESM1 must be firmly connected to the foundation and the container joint. • The ESM1 must be installed to ensure minimum exposure to lateral forces in the initial state. This is the case when the foundation and container joint are horizontal and the fastening holes on the foundation and container joint are suitably aligned. • To protect against welding currents that might destroy parts of the transducer, a 1-EEK4 grounding cable should be fitted to a suitable point to bypass the ESM1. • In the case of statically undefined supports, non-uniform loading of the modules occurs due to flexibility as the load is taken up or due to inaccuracy in the height adjustment. This non-uniformity should be checked on the individual load cells by applying an excitation voltage and comparing the output voltages. To prevent overloads, any large non-uniformity should be compensated for by inserting shims under the supports that are least loaded. A1135-40 de/en/fr HBM 18 12 ESM1 Connection The ESM1 can be connected to: • carrier frequency measuring amplifiers or • DC measuring amplifiers. The load cells are connected using four wire circuitry. The wiring assignment is shown in the diagram below. (black) Excitation voltage (--) (white) Signal (+) (blue) Excitation voltage (+) (red) stranded wire Signal (--) Cable shield, on housing ground (The cable shield is connected to the housing ground and may also be placed flat onto the terminal box or connected via the filler that is run under the shield.) Fig.4.2: Pin assignment Electrical and magnetic fields often induce interference voltages in the measurement circuit. Therefore: • Use shielded, low-capacitance measurement cables only (HBM cables1) fulfill this condition). • Do not route the measurement cables parallel to power lines and control circuits. If this is inevitable, protect the measurement cable with steel conduit for example • Avoid stray fields from transformers, motors and contact switches. The cable shield is connected to the load cell ground and should also be connected extensively in the grounded cable terminal box to ensure the best-possible EMC conditions. 1) e.g. HBM--extension cable, 6 wires: • KAB8/00--2/2/2 (sold by the meter, order no. 4--3301.0071 = grey or 4--3301.0082 = blue) • CABA1 (cable reel, order no. CABA1/20 = 20 m or CABA1/100 = 100 m in length) HBM A1135-40 de/en/fr 19 ESM1 12.1 Connecting several ESM1s in parallel Load cells can be wired in parallel by joining the load cell cable core ends of the same color. In this case the HBM range offers terminal boxes in the VKK... series. The output signal is then the average of the individual output signals. CAUTION Overloading in an individual load cell cannot then be detected from the output signal. 12.2 Cable extensions Extension cables must be shielded and of low capacitance. We recommend to use HBM cables1), which satisfy these requirements. With cable extensions it is important to ensure that a good connection is provided, with minimum contact resistance and good insulation. When using six--wire circuitry in cable extensions, the effects of resistance changes in the extension cable are compensated. If you extend the cable using four--wire circuitry, the sensitivity deviation can be rectified by adjusting the measuring amplifier. However, temperature effects are only compensated when operating with six--wire circuitry. Route the load-cell connection cable so that any condensed water or dampness forming on the cable can drip off. It must not be able to reach the load cell. In addition ensure that no dampness can penetrate the open ends of the cable. 13 Operation • Try to avoid transverse forces that do not work in the direction of the central web of the ESM1 beam • The ESM1 is designed to automatically assume the function of lift--off securing device. The value of the forces transferred in the tensile direction must not exceed those of the nominal load. • The multilayer surface coating (2K acryllic coating) provides good protection against corrosion. At intervals suitable to the particular operating conditions, this should be checked for damage and if necessary, given a further protective coating.
