Irresistible Forces
A various media group exhibition.
November 2016
THE EXHIBITION
Professional and semi-professional artists are invited to submit works for a group exhibition entitled
Irresistible Forces having as a theme those people, events, ideas or forces which influence the formation of
individual self-identities. These take many forms and have many variations, from natural to manmade, from the
actual to the imagined, from the emotional to the intellectual, from the physical to the conceptual, from the
individual to the social. Artists are invited to create artists’ books that reflect on the irresistible forces in their
own lives.
Please consider how the viewer is meant to interact (or not) with your work. The books can be for podium
or wall display and in any scale. They can be representations of books or functional books. There is a maximum
of two works per artist. All styles and media are welcome except electronic. Selection criteria will include:
relevance to the theme, approach and interpretation, technical control of medium, clarity of style, rendering skills
and quality of submitted documents.
Submitted works must be stable. Works in parts must be safely and securely assembled and
accompanied by clear assembly instructions and specialized hardware or accessories if applicable. Wall works
must be secure. Works not meeting these criteria or deemed too fragile or unsafe for display in a public gallery
will not be considered.
EXHIBITION DETAILS: THEME - IRRESISTIBLE FORCES; FORMAT - BOOKS
The opening reception for Irresistible Forces will take place on Sunday, October 16, 2016 from 1 to 3 p.m.,
and the exhibition will be held from Saturday, October 15 to Sunday, November 13, 2016 at Galerie de la
Ville.
SUBMISSION DETAILS AND DATES: PLEASE READ CAREFULLY
1.
Professional and semi-professional artists are invited to submit up to TWO works. These must have been
made between the call-for-entry date above and the registration deadline. Student or amateur work is not
accepted.
2.
THREE STEPS TO APPLY
A) By Monday, August 1, 2016 SIGN UP: for the selection process by sending in the REGISTRATION
FORM.
B) By Monday, September 5, 2016 SEND IN the REGISTRATION PACKAGE
Please note that submission of the registration package constitutes an agreement to participate
as per conditions outlined in this letter but is not a guarantee of participation.

The mailed-in REGISTRATION PACKAGE must include:
.
a) The artist’s curriculum vitae in English or French, maximum 2 pages.
b) A brief artist’s statement in English or French relating to the artist’s book subject
matter, approach, style and/or influences (maximum 3 paragraphs).
c) High resolution (print quality) colour JPEGs of each work submitted identified by the
artist’s name and the work’s title on a CD.
C) On OCTOBER 3, 2016 from 10 am to 5 p.m .DELIVER Works for Selection with the DESCRIPTION
OF WORKS FORM duly completed.
All signed and identified works properly prepared must be delivered to the gallery ready to be
installed and identified with the artist’s name and the title of the piece. Works not ready to hang or be
installed, or lacking proper identification will be disqualified.
The works must be accompanied by:
a) Any special assembly or unusual hanging/display instructions or hardware/equipment required
(e.g., white gloves, Plexiglas cases, etc.)
3.
The SELECTION RESULTS will be available as of October 5, 2016.
Works not selected can be reclaimed on: October 6 or 7 from 10 am to 5 p.m. or by appointment.
4.
Invitations and English and French press releases for the exhibition will be e-mailed around the 10th of
October.
5.
Framing and transportation to and from the gallery are the artist’s responsibility. Packaging must be
removed by the artist. The exhibition as a whole is insured while on gallery grounds.
6.
Participating artists agree to attend the opening reception, which will be held on Sunday, October 16,
2016 from 1 to 3 p.m.
7.
At the end of the exhibition, works must be picked up by the artist or a person with written authorisation to
receive them on Monday, November 14, 2016 before noon or by appointment.
8.
The gallery retains a 20% commission on works sold during the exhibition.
9.
No agents please. The gallery will only deal with the artist directly.
