a l’occasion de l’édition 2015 des journées européennes des métiers d’art, une
exposition phare intitulée « Mutations » est présentée au musée des Arts décoratifs.
Organisée par l’Institut National des Métiers d’Art (INMA), en partenariat avec
le musée des Arts décoratifs, l’exposition est pensée comme un manifeste visant
à renouer avec l’histoire respective des deux institutions et celle des métiers
d’art. La réalisation des objets d’art contemporains a été rendue possible grâce
au soutien de la manufacture Vacheron Constantin qui renoue avec la lignée des
grands commanditaires.
À travers une sélection d’objets emblématiques du musée des Arts décoratifs, et
autour du Hanap «Les métiers d’art », créé en 1896 par l’orfèvre Lucien Falize, «
Mutations » soumet à des collectifs de créateurs (artisans et ateliers d’art, designers,
plasticiens), le dessein de revisiter le répertoire des techniques et des matières
représentés sur cet objet symbolique. La pierre, la terre, le bois, le verre, le cuir,
le papier, le métal et le textile deviennent alors le prétexte à confronter la création
de chacun des collectifs à chacun des concepts fondamentaux qui entourent les métiers d’art. De la matière à l’art, le geste, l’usage, la forme, l’ornement, le décor
et l’évocation des sens se posent dans cette exposition comme les indéfectibles
chapitres des mutations permanentes de l’objet et des métiers d’art. Ces concepts
deviennent principes dans un parcours où de salle en salle, chaque objet d’art
contemporain, associé à l’objet historique qui l’aura inspiré, témoigne d’une
évolution, d’une mutation. Ces espaces y sont devenus de véritables territoires
de l’innovation, tel un laboratoire de recherche et d’expérimentation dans lequel
une projection de vidéos, retrace la création de l’objet contemporain et souligne
l’indéfectible lien entre la pensée et le geste. L’exposition est assortie d’un catalogue, véritable livre objet de 268 pages et 90
illustrations couleur.
for the 2015 European Artistic Crafts Days, the Musée des Arts Décoratifs is
showing the ground-breaking Mutations exhibition.
Organised by the Institut National des Métiers d’Art (INMA) in partnership with
the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Mutations was conceived as a manifesto highlighting
the respective histories of these two institutions and that of the artistic crafts.
Pursing the tradition of the great patrons, the creation of the contemporary objects
was made possible by the generous support of the watchmakers Vacheron Constantin.
Taking a selection of emblematic objects from the Musée des Arts Décoratifs and
focussing on the “Artistic Crafts” goblet created by the silversmith Lucien Falize
in 1896, Mutations asked craft collectives, artisans, designers and artists to reuse
the range of techniques and materials comprising this symbolic object. Stone, clay,
wood, glass, leather, paper, metal and textiles are treated as pretexts for confronting
the emblematic creations produced by these collectives with each of the fundamental
concepts inherent in the artistic crafts. From material to creation, the skills
involved, the object’s use, form, decoration and the evocation of the senses are treated
as chapters in the constant mutation of the object and the artistic crafts. These
concepts and their principles are explored from room to room, in which contemporary
creations are shown alongside the historic objects that inspired them. Exploring
these evolutions, each space is treated as a laboratory of research, innovation and
experimentation, with videos showing the creation of the contemporary object and
emphasizing the indestructible link between thought and gesture.
The exhibition will be accompanied by a catalogue, a superb 268-page ‘book-object’
with 90 colour illustrations.
