Knowing the aging processes is one thing, knowing how to slow them down is another. And knowing for sure that a substance, of any nature, can stop it without causing other damage is something completely different.’ This analysis, central point of a recent dossier dedicated by our colleagues of ‘Test Santé’ to anti-age food supplements, is closely linked to the words of Prof. Alain Favier of the University of Grenoble (France). One of the main purposes of these studies? Examining the action of free radicals, the substances created by the combustion of oxygen (in particular) in the organism, and which will multiply and transform into missiles attacking our cells. Free radicals are –among other things- involved in the cancer process, as well as in the aging process. The medical world is very interested in them, as well as the cosmetic industry. But, but ... When talking about anti-aging products one has to take into account that “the body changes in many ways, hence the difficulty for scientists to find THE substance which will stop it all”. In other words, and without proof to the contrary which is still lacking, the manufacturers claiming to have found the miracle molecule that rejuvenates you with one swing of a magic wand, are liars. The most credible option is the combination of several products (one for the skin, another for the nails and yet another for cellulite, etc.), or of several substances in one product. Prof. Favier has collaborated on the development of a (nearly) all in one complex (Inversion Femme, see above). Infidelity towards his work as university scientist? “Why shouldn’t we be allowed to give advice, to develop a cosmetic product based on our scientific knowledge?” In fact, he is right, it can’t be such a bad thing after all.
