L’Edito du Président
En mai dernier, j’ai eu l’honneur de représenter notre association FGB Quercy
au Congrès National à Toulon. Les collègues toulonnais avaient
magnifiquement organisé cet événement et les congressistes ont été très
bien acceuillis. Hélas il n’y avait que huit associations de représentées sur
les 26 existantes dans l’Hexagone !
J’ai eu le plaisir de présenter notre association qui reste la plus importante
de France et qui est la seule à avoir un nombre plus important d’anglophones
que de francophones. Toutes les associations ont des activités assez
identiques mais notre activité « ateliers de langues » est la plus variée et la
plus attractive. Les échanges ont été très intéressants et je pense qu’il
serait enrichissant d’organiser des rencontres bilatérales avec les
associations les plus proches de Cahors.
J’ai également eu le plaisir de visiter la ville de Toulon qui reflète bien la vie
et l’ambiance méditerranéenne. Et puis la rade de Toulon est splendide !
Bonne fin de vacances à tous ! Bonne rentrée en septembre prochain car
les activités sont déjà en place et annoncées dans le bulletin préparé pour
la dernière fois par Madeline SERRE. J’en profite pour la remercier car
depuis de nombreuses années elle assurait la rédaction du Bulletin.
Last May I had the honour of representing our Quercy Branch at the FGB
National Congress in Toulon. Our colleagues in Toulon had organised this
event magnificently and we delegates were very well received. Sadly, only 8
branches were represented out of the 26 existing in the Hexagon!
I had the pleasure of representing our association, which remains the largest
in France and is the only one to have a greater number of anglophones than
francophones. All the others organise very similar events to ours but our
language workshops are the most varied and the most attractive.
Discussions between us were very interesting and I think it would be fruitful
to arrange bilateral meetings with those associations nearest to Cahors.
I also enjoyed visiting the town of Toulon which well reflects the Mediterranean ambiance and way of life. And the harbour is splendid!
I hope you all enjoy the rest of the holidays and return refreshed in September as the next season’s activities are already planned and are presented in
this bulletin for the last time by Madeline SERRE. I take this opportunity to
thank her for editing the FGB Quercy bulletin for many years.

LANGUAGE LEARNING ATELIERS 2014-2015
The new year of language workshops will start on Monday 22 September (except for
the Intermediate French group which will begin on 1 October) and will run each week
during school terms until June 2015. Workshops are led by volunteer facilitators as a
service to FGB members. There is an annual fee of 30• per workshop to cover atelier
expenses.
To participate, you must also be a member of FGB Quercy. Membership forms can be
downloaded from the FGB website or requested from the membership secretary. The
annual subscription is 15• for individuals and 28• for two people at the same address.
The workshops scheduled for 2014-15 are listed below. Some are already full. If you
would like to attend a workshop, please check availability of places by e-mailing the
coordinators Claudine Cambres [email protected] or Danièle Crouxinoux
[email protected].
La nouvelle année des ateliers de langues débutera la semaine du 22 septembre,
excepté pour le groupe du Français intermédiaire qui commencera le 1 octobre. Les
ateliers ont lieu chaque semaine pendant l’année scolaire jusqu’à juin 2015. Ils sont
animés par des bénévoles assurant ce service pour les membres de FGB. Il est
demandé une cotisation de 30• par atelier pour l’année.
Pour assister à un atelier, il vous faut également adhérer à l’association FGB. Une
fiche d’adhésion peut être téléchargée à partie du site web ou demandée au
responsable des adhésions. L’inscription à l’association est de 15• pour une
personne et de 28• pour 2 personnes habitant à la même adresse.
Vous trouverez ci-dessous la liste des ateliers prévus pour 2014-15. Certains sont
déjà complets. Si vous souhaitez assister à un atelier, veuillez vérifier la disponibilité,

As a continuation of our successful visit in February, we will start with an aperitif in the garden with the wines produced by
Prince Henri, the husband of the Danish Queen Margrethe. From there we will proceed to a short of tour of the Royal Park
and winery. After this we will be shown round the private art collection of Prince Henri in the vaults of the Chateau. Finally,
we will stroll around the lovely park with its large collection of bronze sculptures scattered around the hill.
After an enjoyable 2 hours we will continue on a 20-minute drive westwards to Anglars-Juillac and the restaurant Le Clau
del Loup for lunch. Numbers are limited. Please return the reply slip by 6 September.

Comme suite à notre visite couronnée de succès en février, nous commencerons, dans le jardin, par un apéritif des vins
produits par le Prince Henri, mari de la Reine Margrethe du Danemark. Ensuite nous effectuerons un bref tour du Parc
Royal et de l’établissement vinicole. Puis nous aurons le privilège d’avoir une visite guidée de la collection privée
d’oeuvres d’art du Prince Henri sous les voûtes du château. Finalement, nous flânerons dans le beau parc avec ses
nombreuses sculptures de bronze éparpillées sur les pentes du parc.
Suite à ces deux heures très agréablement passées, nous remonterons en voiture pour un trajet de 20 minutes jusqu’à
Anglars-Juillac et le restaurant Le Clau del Loup pour déjeuner.

Directions: from Cahors take the D811 to Mercuès. Turn left
at the second set of traffic lights on to the D145 direction
‘Base Nautique de Caix’. (If you are coming from the north
or west of Cahors on the D811 this will be a right turn at the
first set of lights in Mercuès.) Follow this road alongside the
river and approx. 3km before you reach Luzech turn right
towards Château Cayx and then right again up the drive.
Directions to restaurant Clau del Loup : from Ch. Cayx turn
right onto D9 direction Luzech. At the roundabout entering
Luzech turn right onto D8 towards Albas and continue on
this road through Albas and Anglars and enter Juillac. The
‘Clau del Loup’ will appear on the left; inside the gate is a
large carpark. Distance approx. 15 km.
Directions: de Cahors, prendre la D811 vers Mercuès.
Tourner à gauche au deuxième feu sur la D145 signalé
‘Base Nautique de Caix’. (Si vous venez du nord ou de
l’ouest de Cahors sur la D8ll, tourner à droite au premier
feu à Mercuès.) Suivre cette route au bord de la rivière et

Cayx et à droite encore pour suivre l’allée du château.

Our next bilingual lunch will take place in the restaurant ‘ Le
Poivre Rouge’. You will, once again, have the opportunity to
share a meal with friends and to chat in both languages.
You’ll select your own food and drink and pay for yourself at
the restaurant.
Please contact Danièle Crouxinoux a week beforehand and
by 26 September at the latest, so that she can tell the restaurant the number of people coming for lunch.

been chosen so that you can drop in between trips to the market and to the FGB
library.They are a great way to keep in touch with old friends, meet new ones
and, of course, practise your language skills! So please come along; everyone
is welcome.
Les causettes informelles au Bordeaux, qui se trouve en face du parking
Place de Gaulle, ont lieu le premier mercredi de chaque mois. Les horaires
ont été choisis afin que l’on puisse y passer entre les visites au marché et
celles à la bibliothèque FGB. Ces causettes sont un très bon moyen de revoir
les anciens amis, d’en trouver de nouveaux et, surtout, de pratiquer l’autre

Caillac, samedi 1 novembre : Français et Britanniques alliés dans la Grande Guerre
Pour prolonger l’exposition et la série de rencontres consacrées cet été à la Guerre de 14, le groupe historique
de Caillac a demandé à Gérard Hocmard de venir parler, le 1er novembre, des Français et Britanniques alliés
dans la Grande Guerre. Avec l’aide et la participation de FGB Quercy, la causerie sera illustrée de textes et
poèmes en français et en anglais, ainsi que de chansons d’époque.
20h30, salle des fêtes du Lac de la Vergne (face au Vinois).
Rafraîchissements d‘usage. Entrée gratuite.
To prolong the exhibition and series of talks of the summer devoted to the First World War, the Caillac History
group have asked Gérard Hocmard to give a talk on Français et Britanniques alliés dans la Grande Guerre on
November 1st. With the help and collaboration of FGB Quercy, the talk will be illustrated by texts and poems
both in French and English, as well as songs of the time.

Whether you are a keen gardener or just like looking at
beautiful scenery and plants, we have arranged a real treat
for you. Margaret Brown will be showing her photos of a
recent trip to The Gardens of Madeira.
Margaret comes with excellent credentials to give us this
slide show and talk in English and French: In England she
was a member of the Royal Horticultural Society and used
to give lectures for them, she was also a member of the
Hardy Plant Society. Her own garden in the UK was included in The Yellow Book and The Daily Telegraph Good
Gardener’s Garden Guide. Here in France she runs le Club
de Jardinage at Lauzerte in the Tarn et Garonne.
After the show, Margaret will be pleased to answer any questions on gardening which you may have. An aperitif will be
served and then those who wish may go up to Salle 305 for
the Vin d’Honneur for the language workshops.
