Antonio VALDES Y SU MARANA teinte habilement son jazz-rock léger et
charmeur d'influences flamenco et gitanes. C'est en France que le saxophoniste-clarinettiste
espagnol a choisi d'enregistrer "De Ojos Como Zarzas" (2002). On le retrouve donc à
Marseille, sous la direction de Philippe TROÏSI (ECLAT). Celui-ci apporte de plus sa
contribution guitaristique à l'ensemble, ainsi que la collaboration de son complice au sein de
FUGU, le contrebassiste Lilian BENCINI. Les compositions peuvent être souvent
rapprochées des meilleurs travaux de Chick COREA ou Al Di MEOLA durant les années
soixante-dix. Et si certaines parviennent si bien à évoquer THE GIPSY KINGS, c'est sans
aucun doute grâce au talent et au feeling du chanteur Pepe LINARES. Une véritable
découverte !
Antonio VALDES Y SU MARANA elegantly mixes its smooth jazz-rock with
flamenco and gipsy influences. The Spanish saxophone and clarinet player chose to record
"De Ojos Como Zarzas" (2002) in France. He was to be found in Marseille, under the
direction of Philippe TROÏSI (ECLAT). This one also played guitar, and added the
collaboration of his FUGU teammate, double-bass player Lilian BENCINI. Compositions can
be linked with some of the Seventies’ Chick COREA or Al Di MEOLA best works. And it’s
not by chance if several evoke THE GIPSY KINGS so well: it has certainly something to do
with the great talent and feeling of the singer Pepe LINARES. A real discovery !
