Entre autres choses on y trouve: promotion de la langue française et de la diversité culturelle et linguistique, promotion de la paix, promotion de la démocratie et des droits de l’Homme, et promotion de la coopération au service du développement durable et de la solidarité. Hélas la survivance des préjugés coloniaux et la persistance pernicieuse de la glottophagie persistent dans leurs efforts à tuer dans l’œuf l’élément le plus audacieux de ce programme: la pluralité linguistique dans l’espace francophone. Gustave Afantchao s’est penché sur cette problématique. Pour en connaitre et comprendre les raisons ; pour surmonter ce dilemme et mettre en perspective une approche de solution, il propose la Civilisation de l’Universel de Senghor, la politologie linguistique de Calvet, les analyses de Memmi, et les réflexions de Maryse Condé en passant par Fanon. DIMANCHE 22 FEVRIER à 15 h 233 Pearl Street, Hartford RSVP avant le 19 février SUNDAY CONFERENCE RESERVATIONS: Conférence par Marie-Claire Rohinsky Il y a tout juste cent ans, les artistes russes s’emparent de la scène musicale parisienne. Leur imprésario, Serge de Diaghilev, lance les Ballets Russes avec l’éclat du jamais vu et du jamais entendu. Paris s’enflamme, Paris s’indigne, Paris s’enthousiasme. Une séduisante Polonaise, par ailleurs pianiste de talent, assiste à la représentation de Boris Godounov, monté à l’opéra Garnier par Diaghilev. L’effet produit sur Misia Sert est foudroyant. Une amitié instantanée s’instaure entre le producteur et celle que les journalistes surnomment “La Reine de Paris”. Misia s’engage alors à la promotion et au financement des Ballets Russes dès leur création en 1909 ; elle soutiendra loyalement leurs étonnantes productions jusqu’à la mort de Diaghilev en 1929. Le centenaire de la fondation des Ballets Russes à Paris est célébré cette année avec éclat dans le monde entier. Nous sommes heureux d’y participer, en nous joignant au musée Wadsworth Atheneum, qui ouvre une exposition de sa propre collection d’oeuvres artistiques et de costumes affiliés aux Ballets Russes. Dans le cadre de ce centenaire, nous ajoutons la voix de Misia Sert qui joua un rôle vital pour la renommée de ces Ballets. Venez à la rencontre de cette femme étonnante de vitalité, d’intelligence, de charme et detalents, qui fut l’amie de nombreux peintres, poètes et musiciens! Camus, a French philosopher and journalist, won the Nobel Prize for Literature. Sartre, known as a great philosopher and existentialist, was awarded the same honor, but refused to accept it. In this course, you will study Sartre’s Le Mur, composed of 5 short stories that make up one of his most famous fictional existentialist works. Practice your French through the most ludicrous situations; misunderstandings, intrigues, revenge plots, mistaken identity and ever slamming doors! A must for theatre fans of today’s Paris stage! Cours Politique: This course offers advanced students an opportunity to discuss foreign policy issues that are part and parcel of the current news in France, in the United States of America, and around the world. The starting point of our open discussions will be GREAT DECISIONS 2008, a top notch nonpartisan publication made up of articles authored by eminent foreign policy experts. Join us for these musings on issues such as Europe, Terrorism, US Defense policy, Philanthropy, and many other global issues. We will emerge from this course with a heightened awareness, a better understanding, a well-informed opinion on global issues, and a well-honed speaking ability in French.. REGISTRATION POLICY classes are for adults only (age 18 and up), without discrimination on the basis of race, color, nationality and/or ethnic origin. ✦All students are required to be members of the AF. Students may park in the LAZ surface (Hilton lot) on Pearl Street at the Jewell Street intersection (across from Fire House Nº4) where the rate is $3 after 5 p.m. In addition, students may park in the Goodwin Garage on Ann Street, but must have their ticket validated by a teacher in order to qualify for the $5 rate. Street parking is also often available and is free after 6 p.m. If there is an event at the Civic Center, no discounts apply.
