«Grain de sable» raconte la façon dont
plusieurs destins se sont joints autour
du passé du Guatemala et nous montre
comment un film documentaire peut
jouer un rôle actif dans le présent d’un
pays à l’histoire turbulente.
Chacun des personnages dont les destins s’entrechoquent dans «Grain de
sable» ont un lien avec le Guatemala
de 1982, période à laquelle le pays en
guerre a connu la campagne génocidaire de «terre brûlée» des militaires
guatémaltèques, responsable de l’extermination de près de 200 000 Mayas.
Devenus partie intégrante du processus visant à poursuivre pénalement les
responsables des crimes commis, ils
ont chacun amené leur petit grain de
sable, leur «granito», à l’établissement
de la vérité.
«Granito» is a story of destinies joined
by Guatemala’s past, and how a documentary film intertwined with a nation’s
turbulent history emerges as an active
player in the present.
Each of the main characters whose
destinies collide in Granito are connected by Guatemala of 1982, then engulfed
in a war where the military’s genocidal
“scorched earth” campaign exterminated nearly 200,000 Mayans.
Now, our characters become integral
to the overarching narrative of wrongs
done and justice sought that they have
pieced together, each adding their granito, their tiny grain of sand, to the epic
tale.

exécutive de «Witness to War», récipiendaire d’un Oscar.
