HYDE, PhD Assistant Professor, Dept. of Psychology BRAMS, Université de Montréal E-mail: [email protected] Lab website: http://www.abcdlab.com/ Office hours : by appointment Course schedule: Fridays 9:30 – 12:30 pm at BRAMS 1430 Mont-Royal, Outremont, conference room Course objectives : This course is intended for students interested in the study of the biological basis of musical cognition. Ideally, students should be enrolled in one of the following programs of study: psychology, music, neuroscience, biomedical sciences, audiology / speech, or linguistics. By the end of the course, the student should be able to: 1. Understand the fundamentals of the neuropsychology of music. Critically evaluate relevant scientific articles in this field of study 2. 3. Present proposals for scientific experiments aimed at addressing a ‘hot topic’ in field of music neuropsychology. Instructional Method : Lectures Group discussion Special workshops The lectures and course plan will be made available on google drive. Evaluation method : 50% class participation • class participation (everyone should read papers each week to join group discussion) 50% oral presentation • present a background + critical review of an assigned topic (45 min) general background on topic identify hot issues (what do we know, what do we not know) summary of study (introduction, methods, results, main conclusions) 5 pros and cons of study (to stimulate class discussion) future directions (propose novel ideas here) Class Schedule: (subject to modification) 6 septembre • Welcome and course overview • ‘Introduction to the Neuropsychology of Music’ (part 1) 13 septembre • ‘Introduction to the Neuropsychology of Music’ (part 2) • References : o Altenmüller E, Demorest SM, Fujioka T, Halpern AR, Hannon EE, Loui P, Majno M, Oechslin MS, Osborne N, Overy K, Palmer C, Peretz I, Pfordresher PQ, Särkämö T, Wan CY, Zatorre RJ.
