Das rote Taschenmesser mit Schweizerkreuz, weltweit bekannt
als «Schweizer Messer» oder «Swiss Army Knife», hat kulturgeschichtlich gesehen bedeutende Vorgänger. Die enorme Vielfalt
an historischen Klappmessern aufzuzeigen, ist Ziel der in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Winterthurer Sammler Horst A. Brunner
und der Firma Victorinox entstandenen Sonderausstellung. Angelegt als themenzentrierter Parcours widmet sich die Ausstellung der kulturgeschichtlichen Herkunft des Klappmessers. Sie
greift das Thema Messer und Aberglaube auf, zeigt Sonderbarkeiten wie Pistolenmesser oder Sensationelles wie das grösste
und das kleinste Taschenmesser. Die Ausstellung geht auf die
Gründung der Messerfabrik Karl Elsener in Ibach bei Schwyz ein
und beleuchtet, was heute Innovation im Bereich der Messerproduktion heisst.

Culturellement et historiquement, le couteau de poche rouge
marqué de la croix blanche, connu dans le monde entier sous le
nom de « couteau suisse » ou « Swiss Army Knife » a de nombreux
prédécesseurs. L’exposition montée en collaboration avec le collectionneur de Winterthour Horst A. Brunner et la maison Victorinox se propose de montrer la foisonnante diversité de couteaux
à lame repliable. Conçue comme un parcours thématique, l’exposition s’attache à décrire les origines historique et culturelle du
couteau de poche. Elle traite aussi du couteau et des superstitions, présente des curiosités comme le couteau-pistolet ou du
franchement sensationnel comme le plus grand et le plus petit
couteau de poche. Elle évoque la fondation de la fabrique de couteaux Karl Elsener à Ibach près de Schwyz et s’interroge sur la signification de l’innovation dans la fabrication de couteaux.

«The Swiss Army knife –
a tool that’s become an icon»

svizzero e coltello a serramanico romano
Il coltello tascabile con la croce svizzera, noto in tutto il mondo
come «coltellino svizzero» o «Swiss Army Knife», vanta celebri
antenati. La mostra temporanea, realizzata dall’azienda Victorinox in collaborazione con il collezionista di Winterthur Horst A.
Brunner, si prefigge di mettere in luce la straordinaria diversità
degli storici coltelli a serramanico. Concepita come percorso tematico, la mostra risale alle origini storico-culturali del coltello
a serramanico, illustrando il coltello, la superstizione, particolarità come per esempio il coltello pistola oppure oggetti sensazionali come il coltellino tascabile più grande e quello più piccolo
del mondo. La mostra documenta inoltre la fondazione della coltelleria Karl Elsener a Ibach, Svitto, soffermandosi sulle innovazioni in questo specifico ramo produttivo.

Bayonet, coltello d’amore, Swiss dagger,
Roman clasp knife
The red pocket knife with the Swiss flag emblem, known around
the world as the Swiss Army knife, has important cultural forebears. This special exhibition, staged in association with the
collector Horst A. Brunner of Winterthur and the company Victorinox, showcases the enormous variety of historical pocket
knives. Arranged thematically, it offers a guided tour through
the cultural history of this iconic tool. It examines topics such
as knives and superstition, and features unusual examples such
as the pistol knife and striking ones such as the largest and
smallest pocket knives. There’s also a look at the foundation of
the Karl Elsener knife factory in Ibach, Schwyz, plus an insight
into the innovative aspects of present-day knife manufacture.
