Igor Ellyn became a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and a Chartered Arbitrator in 2002.
He has participated in international and domestic arbitrations involving the ICC International Court of
Arbitration, the LCIA, the UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules and the UNCITRAL Model Law. He is conversant
with all aspects of commercial arbitration.
He is an active member of the Toronto Commercial Arbitration Society and a director of the Toronto
chapter of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. He has also lectured on international arbitration
before the New York State Bar Association and the Cornell University School of International Labour
Relations and at Toronto legal conferences. He published The Role of Arbitration in International
Business, (http://goo.gl/k4R0T) following a 2013 presentation at York University, Toronto.
For more than 40 years, Igor Ellyn has practiced as business litigation counsel and is now senior partner
of the Toronto litigation and arbitration boutique, ELLYN LAW LLP. His firm is a member of INBLF, the
International Network of Boutique Law Firms (www.inblf.com), and is the designated commercial
arbitration firm for Toronto, Canada. Mr. Ellyn is also Chair of INBLF’s Business Litigation and
Arbitration Practice Group, which comprises over 125 lawyers globally.
Mr. Ellyn is well-seasoned in a broad spectrum of business-related disputes, including contract, agency,
manufacturing, shareholder, partnership, joint venture, leasing and international business. He has
been involved in many industries including pharmaceuticals, IT, mining materials, construction,
automobile dealerships, media and publishing, aircraft castings, gemstones, real estate and others.
He brings to the table experience in all aspects of dispute resolution: arbitrator, mediator and legal
counsel. Mr. Ellyn was designated Queen’s Counsel in 1984 and has been Certified by the Law Society of
Upper Canada as a Specialist in Civil Litigation since 1989. In 1997, the Law Society of Upper Canada
bestowed the Bicentennial Award of Merit on him. He has appeared before Courts and tribunals in
Canada and internationally, including the Superior Court of Justice of Ontario, the Ontario Court of
Appeal, the Supreme Court of Canada, the Federal Court of Canada and arbitral tribunals in Quebec.
He has also appeared in the English High Court of Justice on a case arising from a Canadian arbitration.
Mr. Ellyn is a member of six arbitration panels: 1) the Arbitration Committee of the Canadian Chamber
of Commerce, 2) the Arbitral Tribunal of the Portfolio Management Association of Canada, 3) ADR
Chambers International, the 4) ADR Institute of Ontario Inc., 5) the Arbitral Panel of the Toronto
Construction Association and 6) the Consumer Arbitration Panel of the Better Business Bureau of Central
and Mid-Western Ontario Inc. He provides ADR services consisting of Mediations, Arbitrations, including
international commercial arbitration and domestic arbitration, Early Neutral Evaluation, Mini-Trials,
Med-Arb, and Private Appeals from Arbitral Awards and Trial Judgments. He is currently sole arbitrator
in an ICC Arbitration.
He is a well-known member of the local and international Bar. He was President of Canadian Bar
Association-Ontario in 1994-95 (now Ontario Bar Association). He has been chair and a speaker at more
than 40 continuing legal education programs on various aspects of business litigation, arbitration and
ADR. He has written extensively about litigation and arbitration. Some of his publications are posted on

been widely read online. He is also co-author of the Canada chapters of Enforcement of Money
Judgments and International Liabilities of Corporate Directors (Juris Publishing).
Mr. Ellyn speaks five languages: English, French, Romanian, Hebrew and German. He conducts
arbitrations, mediations, neutral evaluation and mini-trials in English or French or bilingually.

depuis 2002. Il s’implique dans divers arbitrages commerciaux internationales et nationales, y inclus
les arbitrages au sein de la Cour internationale d'arbitrage de la CCI et des autres organismes. Il est
