MINISTi,RE DU BUDGET DES COMPTES J'UELICS ET DE LA FONCTIO:-; PUBLIQUE As was reported , the Italian customs and excise authority has placed an order for two ATR Surveyors. Meanwhile the Harbor Master's office, which cornes under the Italian defense ministry, will also be operating one of these aircraft. These machines will be required to perform SAR and eus toms surveillance in areas known to be used for clandestine immigration andillegal traffic in the Adriatic Sea and regions close to Sardinia and Corsica. The surveyor which is capable of patrolling non-stop for eight hours aver an area 360 km from base (or 3h30min at distance of 1000km) will replace the current Piaggio 166s. The surveyor version thanks to its open ended architecture can readily adapt to specifie requirements, particularly where sensors are concerned. These aircraft include a full 360-deg ESM electronic eavesdropping system, a radar capable of operating in the ISAR imaging mode and a mobile belly-mounted optronic turret comprising infrared and TV sensors. Additional to these is a comprehensive VHF/UHF-HF transmission package and, on either side of the airframe, a gun-pod armed with a 12,7mm machine gun. Aiso provided is a nacelle housing a powerful searchlight and an electronic cartridge dispenser. Two control stations inside the cabin provide overall management of the sensors. However the Surveyor is essentially a mutlirole beast, hence reconfigurable. The rack-mounted workstations can easily be dismantled to convert the aircraft for transporting passengers, paratroops (a side door in the cabin can be used for jumping out releasing an SAR line), eight stretchers, or freight Eavesdropping Hence = donc = écoute
