oxing Ontario is ready to enter their corner and begin competition at the 2011 Canada Winter Games! This year’s team for
Boxing Ontario will be the last to represent Ontario in the Canada Winter Games.
The team of nine (9) boxers has been training hard and preparing to dominate the ring at the Games in Halifax. The athletes hail from
across the province coming from as far as Sault Ste. Marie and extending all the way to Leamington Ontario.
All of the boxers are current Provincial Champions. Bradley Wilcox is a 3-time Canadian Champion and the Ringside Open World
Champion. His brother Steven, and dad, Bob were a part of the 2007 Canada Winter Games team. Evan Gillard, Zsolt Daranyi,
Rodolpho Valesquez and Josh Benoit are each Canadian Champions. Many of the team members have experienced international
success and all of them plan to use the Canada Winter Games as a stepping stone to becoming Olympic athletes.
In preparation for the Games the team has trained very hard,enduring four training camps and professional fitness testing. Boxing
Ontario is ready to begin, ready to compete and ready to win!
Boxing Ontario is very proud to support this young team of talented boxers and predict this will be a knockout year!

L’équipe de Boxing Ontario de cette année sera la dernière à représenter la province aux Jeux d’hiver du Canada.
Constituée de neuf (9) boxeurs, cette équipe s’est entraînée sans relâche et s’est préparée à dominer le ring aux Jeux de Halifax. Ses
athlètes viennent de toute la province, parfois d’aussi loin que Sault Ste. Marie, et de toutes les régions de l’Ontario jusqu’à
Leamington.
Tous les boxeurs sont actuellement champions au niveau provincial. Bradley Wilcox est devenu trois fois champion du Canada et a
remporté le Ringside Open World Championship. Son frère Steven et son père Bob faisaient partie de l’équipe des Jeux d’hiver du
Canada de 2007. Evan Gillard, Zsolt Daranyi, Rodolpho Valesquez et Josh Benoit sont tous champions du Canada. Bon nombre
d’entre eux ont décroché des titres internationaux et tous voient les Jeux d’hiver du Canada comme un tremplin vers une carrière
olympique.
En prélude aux Jeux, l’équipe a travaillé très intensément, en se soumettant à quatre camps d’entraînement et à des analyses
professionnelles de condition physique. Boxing Ontario est prêt à enfiler ses gants, combattre et gagner!
Boxing Ontario est très fier d’aider cette équipe jeune composée de boxeurs talentueux, et promet une année percutante!
Courtemanche, Donald ~ Coach / entraîneur
Kingsville
Don started boxing 25 years ago at the
Kingsville Boxing Club. After several years
and 45 bouts, he switched from athlete to
coach under the tutelage of Doug Patterson.
Five years ago, Don opened his own boxing
club in Leamington Ontario, which he runs
with the help of his father, Andre, and
coach, Doug. Don's father was a boxer and
continues to coach today, while his older
brother Andre works as a ring announcer
and public relations agent in the
professional ranks. Currently, Don is a Level
III certified coach, the Provincial Coach of
Ontario and of course, the proud assistant
coach of the 2011 Canada Games Ontario
boxing team.
Don a commencé la boxe il y a 25 ans au
Kingsville Boxing Club. Après plusieurs
années et 45 combats, il raccroche les
gants pour devenir entraîneur sous la tutelle
de Doug Patterson. Cinq ans plus tard, Don
ouvre son propre club de boxe à
Leamington, en Ontario, qu'il tient avec
l'aide de son père André et de Doug, son
entraîneur. Le père de Don était boxeur et
continue aujourd'hui à exercer comme
entraîneur, tandis que son frère aîné André
travaille comme annonceur de ring et agent
en relations publiques dans le milieu
professionnel. Actuellement, Don est
entraîneur certifié de niveau III, entraîneur
provincial de l'Ontario et, évidemment, fier
d'être entraîneur adjoint de l'équipe de boxe
ontarienne pour les Jeux du Canada.

Hendren, Kerry ~ Coach / entraîneur
Omemee
Kerry offers over 30 years of boxing
experience as an athlete and coach. As an
athlete he won and placed in several
Ontario boxing championships and was a
national B team member in 1991. After
turning to coaching Kerry developed many
Ontario and national champions. Currently,
Kerry sells real estate for Royal Lepage
Kawartha Lakes Realty in Omemee Ontario.
He also runs the Boxing Factory boxing club
in Lindsay Ontario. Over the course of the
year Kerry organizes boxing shows for
charities such as Easter Seals Ontario and
Kerry jouit d'une expérience de plus de
30 ans dans la boxe en tant qu'athlète et
entraîneur. Comme boxeur, il a remporté
divers titres ou classements dans plusieurs
championnats ontariens, et était membre de
l'équipe nationale B en 1991. Devenu
entraîneur, Kerry a fait éclore nombre de
champions provinciaux et nationaux.
Aujourd'hui, il est agent immobilier pour
Royal Lepage Kawartha Lakes Realty à
Omemee, en Ontario. Il dirige aussi le club
Boxing Factory à Lindsay (Ontario). Au
cours de l'année, Kerry organise des
Orr, Kimberly ~ Team Manager / chef d'équipe
Hamilton
Kimberly got involved with boxing four years
ago. Prior to becoming the High
Performance Director for boxing in Ontario
Kimberly coached twice with the Ontario
judo team. She also competed at the 2000
Olympics in the sport of judo. Kimberly is
excited to support all of the athletes in their
quest to capture gold.
Aurora, Philippe ~ Athlete / athlète
Cela fait quatre ans que Kimberly fait de la
boxe. Avant de devenir directrice de la boxe
de haut niveau en Ontario, elle a entraîné
l'équipe de judo de la province à deux
reprises. Elle a aussi participé comme
judoka aux Jeux olympiques de 2000.
Kimberly est heureuse à l'idée de soutenir
tous les athlètes dans leur quête pour l'or.

Ottawa
Phil has been boxing for the past three
years. His home club is the Final Round
Boxing club. This is Phil's debut at the
Canada Games for boxing and hopefully not
his last. He's very much looking forward to
competing against the best boxers in
Canada. Phil depends a great deal on his
coach Eric Belenger and the support of
teammates to keep him on track. He hopes
to become a police officer once his boxing
career is complete.
Phil boxe depuis trois ans. Son club
d'attache est le Final Round Boxing Club.
Ces Jeux du Canada seront les premiers
pour lui, et, espérons-le, pas les derniers. Il
a vraiment hâte d'affronter les meilleurs
boxeurs du pays. Phil compte beaucoup sur
son entraîneur Éric Belenger et sur le
soutien de ses coéquipiers pour rester
concentré. À l'issue de sa carrière de
boxeur, il voudrait devenir officier de police.

Benoit, Joshua ~ Athlete / athlète
Age: 16
Sault Ste Marie
Boxing has played an instrumental role in
changing Josh's life. It has taught him
discipline, respect for self and respect for
others. Josh is a 3-time provincial champion
and 1-time national champion. His personal
role model is Muhammad Ali.
Crowley, Cody ~ Athlete / athlète
La boxe a joué un rôle moteur dans
l'évolution de Josh. Elle lui a appris la
discipline, le respect de soi et celui des
autres. Josh est triple champion d'Ontario et
champion du Canada. Son modèle est
Mohamed Ali.
Age: 17
Peterborough
Since Cody began boxing four years ago he
has become a 2-time Canadian bronze
medalist, 1-time Canadian silver medalist
and a 2-time Ontario Champion. His home
club is the Boxing Factory in Lindsay
Ontario and he greatly enjoys the mental
aspect of boxing as one on one sport. Cody
was voted captain by his Team Ontario
teammates.
Daranyi, Zsolt ~ Athlete / athlète
Depuis qu'il a commencé à boxer il y a
quatre ans, Cody a décroché deux
médailles de bronze et une d'argent au
niveau national, et s'est imposé par deux
fois comme champion d'Ontario. Son club
s'appelle le Boxing Factory à Lindsay
(Ontario). C'est l'aspect mental qui lui plaît
énormément dans ce sport de combat seul
à seul. Cody a été élu capitaine par ses
coéquipiers d'Équipe Ontario.

Brantford
Zsolt began boxing six years ago and since
then has competed at the 2008 Ontario
Games, developed into a national champion
and defeated the North American champion
in his weight class. He notes is dad (Zsolt
Daranyi), his coach (Chris Johnson) and
Steve Molitor (Canadian pro world
champion) as his role models. One of
Zsolt's main goals is to compete at the 2012
Olympics in London, England.
Zsolt a commencé à boxer il y a six ans de
cela et a participé aux Jeux de l'Ontario en
2008 avant de prendre une stature
nationale et de vaincre le champion
d'Amérique du Nord dans sa catégorie de
poids. Parmi ses modèles, il cite son père
(Zsolt Daranyi), son entraîneur (Chris
Johnson) et Steve Molitor (champion du
monde professionnel canadien). L'un des
principaux objectifs de Zsolt sont les Jeux
olympiques de 2012 à Londres, au
Royaume-Uni.

Gillard, Evan ~ Athlete / athlète
Age: 16
Oshawa
Evan is excited about utilizing the Canada
Winter Games to propel himself to the next
level of his boxing career. Over his four
years of boxing Evan has achieved 4-time
Ontario champion status and 1-time national
champion status. He counts his coach Don
Nelson as a personal role model and boxes
at the Motor City boxing club.
Khan, Azeem ~ Athlete / athlète
Evan est très excité à l'idée de s'appuyer
sur les Jeux d'hiver du Canada pour faire
passer sa carrière à la vitesse supérieure.
Durant ses quatre années de pratique, Evan
est devenu quadruple champion d'Ontario et
champion du Canada. Il considère son
entraîneur Don Nelson comme son modèle
et boxe au Motor City.
Age: 17
Brampton
Four years into his boxing career Azeem
has achieved accolades such as competing
at the 2008 Ontario Winter Games, as well
as winning gold at the 2009 and 2011
Ontario Championships. Azeem boxes at
the King of the Ring boxing club. He enjoys
other sports including mixed martial arts and
soccer. He wants to be a heavy weight
champion similar to his idol Muhammad Ali.
Outside of boxing Azeem earned a citizen
award from his hometown, the City of
Brampton.
Valdivia, Luis ~ Athlete / athlète
En quatre ans de boxe, Azeem s'est
distingué de multiples façons, notamment
en participant aux Jeux d'hiver de l'Ontario
en 2008, et en décrochant l'or en 2009 puis
2011 aux Championnats de l'Ontario.
Azeem boxe au club King of the Ring. Il
apprécie d'autres sports, comme le combat
libre et le soccer. Il souhaite devenir
champion poids lourd comme son idole
Mohamed Ali. En dehors du ring, Azeem a
reçu un prix du citoyen dans sa ville natale,
Brampton.

Brampton
Luis has been boxing for three years. His
accomplishments include winning gold at
the provincial championships twice and
bronze at the national championships once.
He boxes at Champion boxing club and
really enjoys the independence that comes
with boxing. Aside from boxing Luis was
named captain of his high school football
team.
Luis boxe depuis trois ans. Parmi ses
succès figurent l'or aux Championnats de
l'Ontario, par deux fois, et le bronze au
niveau national. Il s'entraîne au club
Champion, et apprécie vraiment
l'indépendance que lui procure la boxe.
Outre ce sport, Luis s'est vu nommer
capitaine de l'équipe de football de son
école secondaire.

Velasquez, Rodolfo ~ Athlete / athlète
Age: 17
Hamilton
Rodolfo, who trains out of McGory's Boxing
Club under coach Vinnie Ryan, has over six
years of competitive experience and was a
2009 Canadian Champion. Rodolfo hopes
his determination, hunger and spirit will help
him achieve good things at the Canada
Games.
Wilcox, Bradley ~ Athlete / athlète
Rodolfo, qui s'entraîne au McGory's Boxing
Club auprès de Vinnie Ryan, jouit de six
années d'expérience en compétition, et du
titre de champion du Canada 2009. Il
espère que sa détermination, son ambition

Hamilton
Boxing is a family tradition in Bradley's
household including his older brother
Steven who was a silver medalist at the
2007 Canada Games in Whitehorse.
Bradley, who has been boxing for over
seven years, is determined to bring back a
gold medal and share it with his brother.
This three time national champion who
trains with the Steeltown Boxing Club wants
to make it four in a row
La boxe est une tradition familiale chez les
Wilcox, avec notamment le frère aîné de
Bradley, Steven, qui a obtenu la médaille
d'argent aux Jeux du Canada de 2007 à
Whitehorse. Bradley, qui boxe depuis plus
de sept ans, entend bien ramener l'or et
partager cette victoire avec son frère. Ce
triple champion du Canada s'entraîne au
Steeltown Boxing Club et veut décrocher un
quatrième titre consécutif.
