Demonstration and display of a new version
of the F-8 Crusader, a two-seater development
of the F-8E, is this company's contribution.
Basically the Crusader is a carrier-borne
fighter/bomber, capable of carrying a wide
variety of stores in the attack or reconnaissance
roles. The most remarkable technical characteristic is a variable-incidence wing, adjustable
to two positions. Mach numbers close to 2
are attained by the most recent variants.

The Leigh Instruments Ltd accident data
recorder system provides a means of recording
aircraft flight data, deploying it safely in case
of crash and automatically transmitting a CW
distress signal from the crash location. When
the aircraft has been located, the recorded data
can easily be removed from its unique aerofoil
and reduced to determine cause of crash.
This system consists of four units: recorder
control unit, recorder electronics unit, mounting and release unit and recorder beacon airfoil. It can record up to 96 data channels, each
sampled every 1.5 seconds maximum, and its
distress beacon operates up to 72 hours. The
system has an overall playback error of less
than 1 per cent.
The "tumbling airfoil," a foam plastic container which safely deposits the recorded magnetic tape after the moment of impact, was
developed and patented by the National Aeronautical Establishment of the National
Research Council of Canada, and Leigh
Instruments Ltd has sole manufacturing rights.

scrupulous conditions of cleanliness. Complete test facilities provide full qualification
testing of components throughout the entire
range of inertial and computer development.
