Day 1: Initiation to fly-fishing… an outing at dusk
Arrive in Vence and settle into a 3-star hotel (shuttle service to Vence on request)
In the early afternoon, your fishing guide will pick you up at the hotel and drive you to a near or not-sonear river in the hinterlands where fishing is allowed between March and September, or to a mountain lake
between July and September. The drive will take between 30 min. and 1 ½ hours.
With your fishing licence in hand (which your guide has procured for you), you are ready for an initiation to
this “school of patience”
Several hours later, when dusk is falling, take advantage of the famous “dusk “ fly-fishing to catch your
first trout
For those with fly-fishing experience, your guide will direct you towards coveted secret spots and offer
technical advice
In the evening, return to the hotel in Vence for a good night’s sleep.
Day 2: Vence, “City of the Arts”
The morning is free, leaving you time to discover the “Provençal” atmosphere of the City of the Arts. The
main square, lined by plane trees, is the market place and gathering place for Vence’s many festivals. It also
has an ideal “boules” field, the famous Provençal game, whose name, “la pétanque”, is derived from the
position of the feet (pieds tanqués) when a player throws the ball. Visit the historic cité: the Cathedral and
Chagall’s mosaic and the Emile Hughes Foundation with its contemporary art exhibitions. A few minutes
farther, you will come to the Rosaire Chapel, designed and decorated by Matisse in 1947-1951, who
characterised it as “the culmination of a life’s work, the blooming of an enormous, difficult and sincere
effort.”
