Summary
Modernizing the management of public lighting in the Municipality of Chefchaouen includes
renewal of 3319 Points with advanced technologies (LED, electronic ballasts) and 50
control boxes with astronomical clocks and remote management of equipment to save
40% power with a return on investment within a perspective of five years. The project
includes capacity building of elected officials and municipal officials as well as advocacy
and promotion of citizen participation.

La Commune de Chefchaouen, Région Tanger-Tétouan Al Hoceima, Royaume du Maroc,
s’engage à prendre des actions concrètes et à agir en tant que membre actif dans l’atteinte
des objectifs climatiques fixés par Sa Majesté le Roi et l’ensemble des 175 nations lors de la
signature de l’Accord de Paris. Le développement durable, résilient au changement
climatique et faiblement carboné fait partie de nos priorités les plus urgentes. Pour ces
raisons, nous adhérons à la Charte du R20 et confirmons que nous partageons les valeurs et
objectifs que ce document décrit.

Social and environmental impact
This project will reduce GHG emissions by
40% (compared to business as usual), and
will reduce maintenance and operating costs
in the municipal budget. It will also reduce
light pollution and improve the local economy
through increased trade and tourism. Finally,
this energy transition will make the city a
model for other Moroccan towns.
Nous accueillons favorablement l’initiative prise par le R20 aux côtés de gouvernements,
d'industries et d'investisseurs afin d’accélérer l’émergence de projets d’infrastructures
faiblement émettrices de Co2 et résilients. Nous mandatons le R20 pour explorer les
possibilités et opportunités de développement de tels projets au sein de notre ville/région :
1. La modernisation de la gestion de l'éclairage public de Chefchaouen, ville en
transition énergie-climat, comme modèle pour les autres communes marocaines
2. Le développement du marché local des vélos électriques utilitaires pour le
commerce et transport dans l’ancienne Médina de Chefchaouen

référence à ce mandat, font partie de notre stratégie de développement durable et participent
aux contributions nationales pour la COP21 (Intended Nationally Determined Contributions,

que partenaire actif aux côtés du R20 et des autres partenaires comme l’ADEREE, la GIZ et
l’IDE-E, pour identifier les objectifs, l’élaboration, le financement et la mise en œuvre de ces
