MASTER ICP Lille – Saarbrücken – Warwick
MASTER ICP Lille – Saarbrücken – Warwick
Differences in European Legal Systems are becoming more
and more of a challenge for lawyers. Students must prepare
for this challenge as early as possible in their legal studies.
Students wishing to understand the French, German and
English Legal Systems and cultures may apply the exchange
programme set up between the Universities of Warwick, Saarland and Lille. This trilateral
programme leads to a Master’s degree issued by the University of Lille II.
Participants, whether they come from France, Germany or the UK will study Law in all three
countries, which will lead, undoubtedly, to a better comprehension of the European economy
as well as moulding European lawyers capable of speaking three languages, a qualification
which will be recognised in all three countries
1) Procedure :
This is a Master’s degree. To be able to apply, students must have attained 180 ECTS for
three first three years of legal studies.
Each University will choose 5 successful applicants per year.
At Lille, the selection process takes place during the 2nd semester of the third year of Licence
in Law. At the start of the 3rd there will be a meeting for students who are competent German
and English. At the start of the 2nd semester the application form are made available, to be
filled in within the month.
Students will then sit an oral exam in March/April in front of a panel composed of
representatives and those in charge of the programme from the three partner Universities.
The interview will be conducted in all three languages. The panel takes into consideration
legal and linguistic abilities as well as the motivation of the applicant. The list of successful
applicant will be classed in order of merit.
Successful applicants will only participate in the programme if they attain the 180 ECTs
required at the end of their 3rd year.
Any Lille student who corresponds with the desired profile should enrol at the University of
Lille II for a Master 1 degree. They will also be required to enrol at Lille II and Internal
Relations or the first semester which will take place at the Law School here in Lille.
Successful students will have the status of ERASMUS student.
2) How the programme works:
ICP students must follow courses and take the exams organised by the Law School at Lille II
in the 1st semester
The second semester will take place in Saarbrucken at the University of Saarland, from April
till the end of July. Intensive language courses will be organised at Lille between the two
semesters (either February or March depending on the Christmas holidays).
These intensives course will be provided by German lawyers, who will be at Lille thanks the
teacher mobility in Europe (ERASMUS for teachers!)
During the 1st semester, students will organise the stay in Germany. They must think of a
subject for their dissertation which will be written in the three languages. This dissertation
will be presented to a panel of French, German and English law professors at the end of the
programme.
At both Warwick and Saarbrucken, students will follow the required courses and take the
exams. While abroad they will be considered as ERASMUS students
For the last year of the Master, the students will enrol irrespective of their University of
origin, in Master 2 at Lille II.
This enrolment is necessary under French law, for the ICP Master’s degree be awarded.
Results obtained in Lille, Saarbrucken and Warwick are mark on a basis of continuous
assessment.
The final assessment will be the viva of the dissertation. The dissertation must relate to a
Comparative Law, European Law or another subject that is transversal.
