Having been in the profession for a relatively few years, I was not ready to take on the responsibility. However, I accepted the responsibility with one thing on my mind: my colleagues will help me deliver. It turned out to be true. Almost everyone that I approached about ASAC agreed to help. Not surprisingly, we had 64 reviewers who provided as many as 120 reviews on 35 English papers submitted. As a result, we have a great program this year…! On behalf of all those who helped put together this program, I take great pleasure to introduce the 2007 ASAC Strategy Division Proceedings. This year we received a total of 47 papers, of which 35 were English submissions. Of these, nine full papers (English) were accepted for presentation and inclusion in the proceedings. Ten papers (English) were accepted only for presentation and inclusion of their summaries in the proceedings. The author of one full paper opted to not publish the paper in the proceedings. The papers in this proceedings deal with a range of topics that seek to advance our understanding on a variety of topics, including new methodologies to address strategy research questions, ownership effects, mergers & acquisitions, knowledge/learning, stakeholder theory, executive compensation, diversification, contingencies/fit, social capital, new product development, and economic liberalization…! I would like to thank the authors who submitted their work to make this program possible. I congratulate them for their excellent accomplishments. I am grateful to the session chairs and discussants who agreed to steer the sessions. This year’s program marks the 50th anniversary of ASAC. We planned special sessions to commemorate that occasion, including (i) a research panel that will reflect on the past and future of Canadian management research; (ii) a practice panel of stakeholders of management research to reflect on the relevant issues to them which need research attention; and (iii) a paper development workshop. I wish to thank all those who made these sessions and the rest of the program possible. I would like to especially thank Dr. Elizabeth Croft, University of Northern British Columbia, Dr. Irene Henriques, York University, Dr. Carole Donada (ESSEC Business School), Dr.s Glenn Rowe, Mary Crossan, Paul Beamish, and Tima Bansal of The University of Western Ontario, and Dr. Parshotam Dass, University of Manitoba for their constant support and encouragement. I would like to thank the members of the Best Paper Adjudication Committee: (i) Dr. Shamsud Chowdhury, Dalhousie University; (ii) Dr. Jaana Woiceshyn, University of Calgary, and (iii) Dr. Elie Matta, HEC, Paris. I would also like to thank Dr. Andrew Delios, National University of Singapore for taking lead in organizing the Paper Development Workshop. I would like to thank all the reviewers who extended their services. Particularly, I would like to thank Marina Apaydin, Nikhil Celly, Shamsud Chowdhury, Balaji Koka, John Philips, Natalia Totskaya, 2 Suhaib Riaz, and Jaana Woiceshyn, for providing excellent reviews that were helpful to the authors. More importantly, I would like to thank all my friends and colleagues at Ivey Business School and Asper Business School who offered their services as reviewers and discussants in this year’s program. Finally, every time I take up a major project, I swear to complete it without taking any help from my wife, Sunita. And, I fail every time…! So, let me at least thank my wife and best friend, Sunita for her help in putting the reviews together. The papers in this volume represent the reviewers’ evaluations of the eleven best submissions. Much effort was taken to match the manuscripts with reviewers’ interests. The latter resulted in authors receiving, according to the feedback we received, excellent comments. We would like to thank the following reviewers for having taken time out of their busy schedules to help make this year’s ASAC Strategy Division program a success…!
