Avenue Wine List
Avenue Wine List
The history of winemaking in the United States is closely intertwined with France. From
the spirit of the early wine pioneers, many joint ventures over the years and, of course,
legendary competitions pitting California against France for ultimate bragging rights.
Over the following pages you will find over 200 carefully selected wines, organised by
grape varietal. In this format we are able to show American and French wines side by
side, making it easier to explore their similarities and differences which result from
different terroirs and the varying approaches of today’s winemakers.

The New California
New California’s winemakers share similar sensibilities: an enthusiasm for lessons
learned from the Old World, but not the desire to replicate it’s wines; a mandate to seek
out new grape varieties and regions; and, perhaps most important, an ardent belief that
place matters. They are the true believers in terroir. - Jon Bonné – The New California
Wine, 2013.

Birichino produces distinctive, harmonious, highly energetic wines which
transcend most people’s thoughts on Californian Wine. This Malvasia’s opulence is equally
matched by its bright acidity and bold floral notes. Perfect for spicy dishes.

California.
This cult classic winery is almost always in the news. Between their Rockstar
winemaker Randall Grahm, being one of the founding members of the Rhone Rangers and
the very high quality this estate puts out each year, there is a lot to talk about. If we focus
on their lovely Vin Gris, this is the rosé that will change your mind about American Rosé.
It has a elegant Provençal character with Strawberry Puree notes and a light creaminess.

Au Bon Climat means "a well-exposed vineyard" and is located on the northern
end of California's Santa Barbara County across from fabled Bien Nacido Vineyard. Au
Bon Climat, also known as ABC only make wine from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir and
focus their efforts to make a wine that is Burgundian in character but American in heart.
Santa Cruz Mountains, California.

Ridge is one of the feathers in America’s hat. Specializing in premium Cabernet
Sauvignon, Zinfandel, and Chardonnay, Ridge really pushes the envelope when it comes to
balanced, fresh, age worthy wines. Their Estate Cabernet is the epitome of the New
California.
