Invitation à d’abord cultiver notre jardin. Cyrille Poy Mega Micro. “Candid” - you ? Dressed for the trip? You’ll be embarking as soon as the threshold is crossed. Destination sunshine, space probe, Martian landscapes, mysterious flashes and a spider web, all act as an initiation voyage to a wonderland of scientific representation. You will return blown away. Stephane Sautour invites you into a split between the infinitely vast and the microscopic. Like a character from Voltaire, he listens to the universe, armed with his candor, and discovers his cursed role in it. His charcoals drawings, magnificently mastered, increase the magical effect of technological imagery of which they are only reproductions. They recall the myth of the cave all the while reversing the relationship between darkness and reality. No, science, the self-important, doesn’t say everything about the real. It is also an instrument used in the relationships of economic forces to show whatever they have chosen to highlight. So, why not give science back its status of darkness, and leave to the artist the domain of truth? Like Jacques Ranciere, Sautour assesses that the promise of emancipation and the freedom with which it adorns itself, only leaves us face to face with our ignorance and the domination of the technique analyzed by Heidegger. The artist will never say, “I can do it better – watch this!” And nevertheless! The affirmation is without appeal. Taste this depth, there where there was only a surface plane. Savour the aspiration of your gaze. Listen to this incommensurable silence. Introspection is available to those who know how to take it. The invitation offered is the cultivation of one’s own backyard.
