Qui?

Les fondateurs d’Elephant Haven, Tony Verhulst et Sofie Goetghebeur,
souhaitaient créer une maison de retraite pour les éléphants ayant vécu en captivité.
Ainsi, ils voulaient également faciliter leur resocialisation et réhabilitation tout en
fournissant des informations et en faisant de la recherche sur leurs besoins et leur
comportement complexes. Tony et Sofie disposent de toute l’expérience nécessaire
grâce à leur expérience de plus de 20 ans dans les parcs animaliers belges.

It was the ambition of Elephant Haven’s founders, Tony Verhulst
and Sofie Goetghebeur to create a retirement home for elephants. A place
where they could facilitate their re-socialization and rehabilitation whilst
providing information and conduct research into their complex needs
and behaviours. Tony and Sofie have both acquired a lot of knowledge
over the past twenty years through working in Belgian zoos.

Het was de droom van de oprichters van Elephant Haven, Tony
Verhulst en Sofie Goetghebeur, om een rusthuis te bouwen voor olifanten
die in gevangenschap leefden. Ze wilden zo ook hun resocialisatie en
rehabilitatie bevorderen en tegelijkertijd ook informatie verstrekken
en onderzoek verrichten over hun complexe behoeften en gedrag.
Tony en Sofie beschikken met hun 20-jarige werkervaring
in Belgische dierentuinen over de nodige kennis.

environnement. Ceci se fera dans un espace avec vue sur le domaine et
les éléphants. Toutes les activités se feront dans le cadre de la durabilité
et en collaboration avec les commerces et les habitants de la région.

Elephant Haven
 will be a retirement home for
older elephants and elephants in need of medical care.
Elephant Haven will be organizing guided visits, workshops, seminars,
yoga classes and other courses that benefit mental and physical
relaxation, as well as day trips for the elderly and schools with fun
and interesting educational information about the animals and their
environment. This will be done in a space with views over the domain
and the elephants. All activities will take place within a sustainable
context and with the help and respect of the local residents.

Elephant Haven zal rondleidingen, workshops, seminaries, yogalessen en
andere cursussen organiseren die de geestelijke en lichamelijke rust ten
goede komen, alsook daguitstapjes voor bejaarden en scholen om iedereen
op een leuke manier educatieve voorlichting te geven over de dieren en
hun leefomgeving. Dit zal gebeuren in een ruimte met uitzicht over het
domein en de olifanten. Alle werkzaamheden zullen in het kader staan
van duurzaamheid en dit met de medewerking van de lokale bewoners.

Un éléphant peut atteindre plus de 60 ans.
Pour l’instant, à travers l’Europe, les cirques abritent 141 éléphants
et les zoos en comptent 540. L’un après l’autre, les pays européens
sont en train d’interdire les éléphants dans les cirques. Renvoyer les
éléphants dans leur pays d’origine n’est pas toujours une option réaliste.
Par contre, on peut tout à fait créer un havre de paix en Europe.

An elephant can reach the age of 60 or more.
There are currently 141 elephants in circuses and 540 elephants living in zoos
across Europe. A ban on elephants in circuses is currently sweeping throughout
European countries. Relocating the elephants back to their country of origin is
not always a realistic option, but creating a safe haven for them in Europe is.
 Waar gaat een olifant met pensioen naartoe ?
Een olifant wordt meer dan 60 jaar oud.
Momenteel leven er zo’n 141 olifanten in circussen en 540 in dierentuinen
in heel Europa. Eén voor één voeren de Europese landen een verbod in op
olifanten in circussen. De olifanten terugsturen naar hun land van herkomst is
niet altijd realistisch, hen een veilige thuishaven bieden in Europa is dat wel.
