CHÂTEAU GUERRY
CÔTES DE BOURG
WINE ESTATE OWNER
The oldest estate in the Côtes de Bourg region, going back some three centuries.
Château Guerry is located in a region full of history and archaeological remains
where winegrowing dates from the Roman conquest, circa 50 B.C. Some of the
first Vitis Biturica vines, the ancestor of the present-day Cabernet Sauvignon,
were planted here. Today’s Château is a lovely country house built in 1790.
Location: Tauriac.
Area under vine: 22 hectares in one block.
Wine grape variety: 50% Merlot, 20% Malbec, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon,
15% Cabernet Franc.
Age of vines: 40 years.
Vine density: 5,400 vines per hectare.
Terroir: Clay-limestone soil on slopes with good sun exposure providing optimum conditions for slow, complete ripening.
Viticulture: Traditional Bordeaux pruning method with two canes. Leaf
Thinning, sustained farming, lightening if necessary, complete green cover
between the vine rows
Winemaking: The grapes are hand-picked and sorted on a vibrating table
after destemming. Pre-fermentation maceration. The wine is left on the skins
for a long time. 50% of the wine is run off into fine-grained French oak
barrels, and the rest into vats.
Yield: 40 to 45 hectolitres per hectare, on average.
