1. Toronto Police looking for two people
The Toronto Police Service is continuing to seek the public's assistance locating two
people wanted in a kidnapping and aggravated-assault investigation.
Police are continuing to search for:
1) John Brown, 44, of Pickering
2) Elanna Marki, 40, of Toronto
On Monday, April 22, 2014, police received information that Elanna Marki is currently in
the area of Prince of Wales Drive and Meadowlands Drive East in the city of Ottawa. If
Elanna Marki is located, the public is urged not to approach her and call 9-1-1
immediately.

2. Canadian Police Canine Association Spring Seminar
The Ottawa Police Service is proud to announce it is hosting the Canadian Police Canine
Association<http://www.canadianpolicecanine.com/> (CPCA) Spring Seminar from April
28 to May 1, 2014 at the Bonnenfant Centre in Dunrobin.
“Canines are not only valued members of our police services, but also important
members of the families who care for them every day,” said Ottawa Police Chief Charles
Bordeleau.
This will be the largest conference since the CPCA was founded in 1978. 100 participants
representing 35 different agencies from across Canada and the United States will attend
the conference.
Edmonton Police Service Constable Matt Williamson will be among those participants.
Williamson’s police dog Quanto was killed while pursuing a suspect last year. The federal
government then introduced Quanto’s Law to give harsher punishments to people who
attack police dogs.
The CPCA is a non-profit, non-partisan association of peace officers who handle and
train police dogs. It organizes police dog training, trials, and education. It brings police
dog handlers and trainers from across North America together to form a network of
people dedicated to the police dog.
3. John Davies’ body recovered
The Ottawa Police Service would like to advise that it is the body of Mr John Davies that
has been located and retrieved from the water at Hogs Back on April 24th. No foul play
is suspected.
4. Charges laid in relation to retail robberies
The Ottawa Police Service Robbery Unit has laid a number of charges in relation to a
series of recent 2014 retail robberies.
On April 18, 2014, at approximately 7:45 pm, two suspects, one male and one female,
armed with knives, entered a convenience store situated along the 300 block of Fifth
Avenue. A customer was present at the time of the robbery. The customer was struck
with the butt end of a knife by one of the suspects. The suspects made demands for cash
and then fled with a quantity of cigarettes, cash, and the cash register. The suspects fled
to a waiting vehicle with a third suspect as driver. There were no injuries.
On April 21, 2014, at approximately 12:45 am, two male suspects entered a convenience
store situated along the 4000 block of Bridle Path Drive. The suspects were armed with a
knife and an expandable baton. The suspects fled with a quantity of cigarettes and lottery
tickets. There were no injuries.
On April 23, 2014, at approximately 2:40 am, two male suspects entered a convenience
store situated along the 1100 block of Bank Street. At least one of the suspects was
armed with a handgun which was pointed at the employee. The suspects fled with a
quantity of cash, cigarettes and lottery tickets. There were no injuries.
On April 25, 2014, at approximately 11:55 pm, two suspects, one male and one female,
attended a gas station kiosk situated along the 3700 block of Riverside Drive. The
suspect approached a store employee and confronted him with a handgun. The suspects
fled with an undisclosed quantity of cash, cigarettes, and lottery tickets. The suspects
fled at which point the female suspect and a female suspect occupying a waiting vehicle
were arrested by plain clothes police officers. The male suspect fled the scene but was
arrested a short time later. There were no injuries. The handgun was recovered at the
scene.

All three persons appeared in court on Sunday April 27, 2014. They remain in custody.
Poulin and Field appear next in court on April 30, 2014. Mr. Dumont appears next on
May 5, 2014.
One additional male suspect is currently being sought in relation to this investigation. The
investigation is ongoing and additional charges could be laid.

1. Séminaire printanier de l’Association canadienne de chiens policiers
Le Service de police d'Ottawa est fier d'annoncer qu'il sera l'hôte du Séminaire printanier
de l'Association canadienne de chiens policiers<http://www.canadianpolicecanine.com>
(ACCP), qui se tiendra du 28 avril au 1er mai 2014 au Centre Bonnenfant à Dunrobin.
« Les chiens ne sont pas seulement de précieux membres de nos services policiers, mais
aussi des membres importants des familles qui en prennent soin chaque jour,» a déclaré le
chef de la Police d'Ottawa, Charles Bordeleau.
Il s'agira de la plus importante conférence en son genre depuis 1978, année où fut créée
l'ACCP. 100 participants représentant 35 différents organismes d'à travers le Canada et
les États-Unis prendront part à la conférence.
L'agent Matt Williamson du Service de police d'Edmonton sera parmi les participants. Le
chien policier de Williamson, Quanto, fut tué l'an dernier lors de la poursuite d'un
suspect. Le gouvernement fédéral adopta alors la Loi de Quanto, qui prévoit des
punitions plus sévères à l'endroit des gens qui s'en prennent à des chiens policiers.
L'ACCP est un organisme sans but lucratif et indépendant regroupant des agents
de la paix qui forment et dressent des chiens policiers. Elle organise des activités
de formation et d'éducation et des épreuves de sélection pour les chiens policiers.
L'organisme rassemble des dresseurs et des entraîneurs de partout en Amérique
du Nord pour former un réseau de gens dévoués aux chiens policiers.
2. Porté disparu John Davies est retrouvé
Le Service de police d’Ottawa confirme que le corps retrouvé à Hogs Back le 24 avril
dernier a été identifié comme étant celui de Mr. John Davies. Les enquêteurs ne
soupçonnent pas d’acte criminel dans ce dossier.
3 Accusations portées relativement à des vols dans les commerces
L'Unité des vols du Service de police d’Ottawa vient de porter plusieurs accusations en
rapport à une série de vols perpétrés récemment dans des commerces.
Le 18 avril 2014 vers 19 h 45, deux suspects, un homme et une femme, armés de
couteaux, se présentèrent dans un dépanneur du bloc des 300 de la cinquième avenue. Un
client, qui se trouvait alors sur les lieux, fut frappé avec le manche d'un couteau. Les
suspects exigèrent de l'argent comptant puis quittèrent l'endroit en emportant des
cigarettes, de l'argent comptant, ainsi que la caisse enregistreuse. Les suspects s'enfuirent
jusqu'à un véhicule au volant duquel les attendaient un complice. Personne ne fut blessé.
Le 21 avril 2014 vers 00 h 45, deux suspects se présentèrent dans un dépanneur du bloc
des 4 000 de la promenade Bridle Path. Les suspects étaient armés d'un couteau et d’un
bâton extensible. Les suspects s'enfuirent en emportant des cigarettes et des billets de
loterie. Personne ne fut blessé.
Le 23 avril 2014 vers 2 h 40, deux suspects se présentèrent dans un dépanneur du bloc
des 1 100 de la rue Bank. Au moins un des suspects était muni d'une arme de poing, qui
fut braquée sur l'employé du commerce. Les suspects s'enfuirent en emportant un
montant en espèces, des cigarettes et des billets de loterie. Personne ne fut blessé.
Le 25 avril 2014 vers 23 h 55, deux suspects, un homme et une femme, se présentèrent
dans le kiosque d'une station-service du bloc des 3 700 de la promenade Riverside. Le
suspect accosta un employé, le menaçant d'un pistolet. Les suspects quittèrent les lieux en
emportant un montant en espèces, des cigarettes et des billets de loterie. Alors que les
suspects s'enfuyaient, leurs complices, un homme et une femme, qui les attendaient à
bord d'un véhicule, furent appréhendés par des agents de police en civil. Le suspect
s'échappa, mais fut retrouvé et arrêté un peu plus tard. Personne ne fut blessé. L'arme de
poing fut récupérée sur les lieux.

Les trois accusés ont comparu devant les tribunaux le dimanche 27 avril 2014. Ils
demeurent en détention. La prochaine comparution de Poulin et Field est prévue pour le
30 avril 2014. Celle de Dumont est prévue pour le 5 mai 2014.
Un autre suspect est toujours recherché dans le cadre de cette enquête, qui demeure
active. D'autres accusations pourraient être portées sous peu.

OPS and By-Law services base their work on call statistics. The more calls that you
make, the more neighbourhood services we receive. There are three steps to making the
call:
a) Deciding which number to phone.
If you have an emergency or see a crime in progress, call 9-1-1. If your car was broken
into or you need police to attend another non-urgent situation, please call the “other
emergencies” number (613-230-6211). To report an incident after it occurred without
police attending the scene, please call 613-236-1222 – ext. 7300. You can reach by-law
services at 3-1-1.
b) Getting a report number.
When the dispatcher answers, it is a good idea to ask for a report number immediately.
We’ve found that dispatchers sometimes hang up before we get to ask for a number or we
forget. Asking for a report number right away solves these problems.
c) Share your report number and incident.
Please e-mail your report numbers and a brief description of the incident to your Block
Captain (if you have one), or directly to us.
Importance of Reporting Prostitution and Problem Addresses
Neighbourhood Watch members can support the police by writing down and phoning in
important information such as: vehicle descriptions and license plate numbers (specify
Ontario or Quebec) of anyone soliciting prostitutes, descriptions of drug dealers and
addresses of crack houses.
