Use for any additional purpose shall be deemed to be not as intended. In the interests of safety, the transducer should only be operated as described in the Mounting Instructions. It is also essential to comply with the legal and safety requirements for the application concerned during use. The same applies to the use of accessories. The transducer is not a safety element within the meaning of its use as intended. For safe and trouble−free operation, this transducer must not only be correctly transported, stored, sited and installed but must also be carefully operated and maintained. General dangers of failing to follow the safety instructions U93 force transducers are state−of−the−art and reliable. Transducers can give rise to remaining dangers if they are inappropriately installed and operated by untrained personnel. Everyone involved with the installation, commissioning, maintenance or repair of a force transducer must have read and understood the Mounting Instructions and in particular the technical safety instructions. Remaining dangers The scope of supply and performance of the transducer covers only a small area of force measurement technology. In addition, equipment planners, installers and operators should plan, implement and respond to the safety engineering considerations of force measurement technology in such a way as to minimize remaining dangers. Prevailing regulations must be complied with at all times. There must be reference to the remaining dangers associated with force measurement technology. HBM A2081-2.1 en/de/fr 5 U93 Remaining dangers are indicated in these Mounting Instructions by the following symbols: Symbol: WARNING Meaning: Dangerous situation Warns of a potentially dangerous situation in which failure to comply with safety requirements can result in death or serious physical injury. Symbol: CAUTION Meaning: Possibly dangerous situation Warns of a potentially dangerous situation in which failure to comply with safety requirements could result in damage to property or some form of physical injury. Symbol: NOTE Means that important information about the product or its handling is being given. Symbol: Meaning:CE mark The CE mark enables the manufacturer to guarantee that the product complies with the requirements of the relevant EC directives (the Declaration of Conformity can be found at http://www.hbm.com/HBMdoc). A2081-2.1 en/de/fr HBM 6 U93 Conversions and modifications The transducer must not be modified from the design or safety engineering point of view except with our express agreement. Any modification shall exclude all liability on our part for any damage resulting therefrom. This excludes fitting and removing the adapter, as described in Chapter 4. Qualified personnel This device must only be installed by qualified personnel, strictly in accordance with the specifications and in conjunction with the safety requirements and regulations listed below. It is also essential to observe the appropriate legal and safety regulations for the application concerned. The same applies to the use of accessories. Qualified personnel means persons entrusted with the installation, assembly, commissioning and operation of the product, who possess the appropriate qualifications for their function. Conditions at the place of installation Protect the transducer from moisture and dampness or weather conditions such as rain, snow, ice and salt water. Maintenance The U93 force transducer is maintenance free. Accident prevention The prevailing accident prevention regulations must be taken into account, even though the nominal force values in the destructive range are well in excess of the full scale value. HBM A2081-2.1 en/de/fr 7 U93 1 Scope of supply • U93 force transducer • U93 operating manual 2 Application notes The U93 type series transducers are suitable for measuring tensile and compressive forces. Because they provide highly accurate static and dynamic force measurements, they must be handled very carefully. Particular care must be taken when transporting and installing the devices. Dropping or knocking the transducers may cause permanent damage. It is essential to provide careful sealing so that sensitive strain gage applications are protected by the housing. Particular caution must be exercised with the base of the housing, which is very thin. The specifications list the permissible limits for mechanical, thermal and electrical stress. It is essential that these are taken into account when planning the measuring set−up, during installation and ultimately, during operation. A2081-2.1 en/de/fr HBM 8 3 U93 Conditions on site 3.1 Ambient temperature The temperature effects on the zero signal and on the sensitivity are compensated. To obtain optimum measurement results, the nominal (rated) temperature range must be observed. Temperature−related measurement errors are caused by heating on one side (e.g. radiant heat) or by cooling. A radiation shield and all−round thermal insulation produce noticeable improvements, but must not be allowed to form a force shunt. 3.2 Moisture and dampness Avoid extreme moisture or a tropical climate, if the values are outside the classified limits (degree of protection IP67 as per DIN EN 60529). NOTE: Moisture must not be allowed to penetrate the free end of the connection cable. 3.3 Deposits Dust, dirt and other foreign matter must not be allowed to accumulate sufficiently to divert some of the measuring force onto the housing, thus invalidating the measured value (force shunt). The gap below the flange face must not become clogged with foreign matter. HBM A2081-2.1 en/de/fr 9 U93 4 Mechanical installation 4.1 Important precautions during installation • Handle the transducer gently. • Do not overload the transducer. • During or immediately after installation, the transducer should be bridged by a 50 mm2 stranded copper wire (highly flexible EEK ground cable from the HBM supply program). The cable is screwed−on above and below the transducer. This prevents welding currents flowing over the transducer and welding the force application point. WARNING Additional safeguards must be provided if there is a risk that overloading the transducer may cause it to break, which could put people at risk. 4.2 General installation guidelines The forces to be measured must act on the transducer as accurately as possible in the direction of measurement. Torsional and bending moments, eccentric loading and lateral forces may produce measurement errors and destroy the transducer, if limit values are exceeded (see Specifications). CAUTION The transducer is hermetically sealed underneath by a welded base. This base is very thin and must not be subjected to mechanical stress. CAUTION Do not load here. A2081-2.1 en/de/fr HBM 10 U93 4.3 Installation for tensile and compressive loading The transducer is bolted directly (via the ring−shaped flange faces) onto a rigid, self−supporting structural element (such as a profile, a cover or a plate). With this method of installation, transducers can measure axial forces in both the tensile pressure directions. Alternating loads can also be recorded perfectly. • For precise positioning, the transducer is fitted with centering aids on the upper and lower mounting surfaces. • The upper and lower supporting surfaces need to be flat. For the base−side supporting surface, we recommend a surface roughness of Ra v0.8 μm. • Thoroughly clean the supporting surfaces before installation. admissible centering depth 1 mm F ØC MA 45o or 22.5o offset in the drawing customer side flange base customer side ØC admissible centering depth 1.5 mm MA NOTE: Center U93 over diameter C. HBM A2081-2.1 en/de/fr 11 U93 5 Electrical connection The transducers are delivered with a 3 m cable with free ends as standard. The cable shield is connected to the entire surface of the transducer housing. This encloses the measurement system in a Faraday cage, so that it is not affected by electromagnetic interference. NOTE: If a negative output voltage is required at the amplifier when the transducer is under compressive loading, the white and red cable wires must be transposed. The transducers with free cable ends must be fitted with CE norm connectors. The shielding must be connected extensively. With other connection techniques, a good EMC shield must be provided in the stranded area, where the shielding is also extensively connected. If this is not possible (in cable pits, for example), protect the measurement cable with a rigid steel conduit, for example and keep it at least 50 cm away from the other cables. The power lines or control circuits should be twisted (15 twists per meter). • Avoid stray fields from transformers, motors and contact switches. • Do not ground the transducer, amplifier and indicator more than once. All the devices in the measurement chain must be connected to the same grounded conductor. • The connection cable shielding is connected to the transducer housing. If the transducer is connected in accordance with Fig. 5.1:, when the transducer is loaded in the pressure direction, the output voltage at the amplifier is positive. Connecting to terminals: 1. The shield can be accessed via a cut in the cable sheath (see Fig. 5.2:). 2. Connect the shield extensively to the housing ground. Connecting to a plug: Connect the cable shield extensively to the connector housing. 2 10 100 10 Cable sheath cut open around the circumference and pushed forward by about 2 mm Fig. 5.2:: Cable sheath with incision HBM A2081-2.1 en/de/fr U93 13 5.2 TEDS transducer identification TEDS stands for “Transducer Electronic Data Sheet”. An electronic data sheet is stored in the transducer as defined in the IEEE 1451.4 standard, making it possible for the measuring amplifier to be set up automatically. A suitably equipped amplifier imports the transducer characteristics (electronic data sheet), translates them into its own settings and measurement can then start. At the gray connection (to ground at black), there is a digital identification system available. The basis for this is a 1−wire EEPROM DS2433, made by Maxim/Dallas. HBM provides you with the TEDS Editor for storing your data. This is a component part of the MGCplus Setup Assistant software (see the TEDS operating manual “TEDS data memory in the transducer” on the Internet at www.hbm.com/TEDS). The Editor also makes it possible to manage the different user rights to protect the fundamental transducer data from being inadvertently overwritten. Content of the TEDS memory as defined in IEEE 1451.4: The information in the TEDS memory is organized into templates which are prestructured to store defined groups of data in table form. Only the entered values are stored in the TEDS memory itself. The amplifier firmware assigns the interpretation of the respective numerical values. This places a very low demand on the TEDS memory. The memory contents are divided into four areas: Area 1: An internationally unique identification number (cannot be changed). Area 2: The base area (basic TEDS), to the configuration defined in standard IEEE 1451.4. The transducer type, the manufacturer and the transducer serial number are contained here. Area 3: Data specified by the manufacturer are contained in this area: These specify − the transducer type, − the measured quantity, − the electrical output signal, − the required excitation. A2081-2.1 en/de/fr HBM 14 U93 HBM has already written the Bridge Sensor template for the U93 force transducer. Area 4: The actual user can modify the last of these areas with, for instance: − channel name, − filter settings, − zero value. Example: Content written by HBM, on the basis of the individual test certificate: Area 3 of the U93/2 kN sensor with identification no. 123456, made by HBM on 1.6.2006. Possible values: a number from 0 to 2047. If that is not enough, the HBM Channel Comment template can also be used for this purpose. Typical values for an HBM U93/2 kN type force transducer When creating the Bridge Sensor template, the manufacturer defines the physical measured quantity and the physical unit. The available unit for the particular measured quantity is specified in the IEEE Standard. For the measured quantity of force, this is the unit N. At the time of creating the template it is also necessary to choose between the options “Full Precision”, “mV/V” and “μV/V” for the accuracy of the characteristic transducer curve mapped in TEDS. HBM always opts for “Full Precision” here, in order to be able to use full digital resolution. This choice is also recommended to users who program the TEDS memory themselves. Anschließen an Klemmen: 1.
