Summer Features
White Wine
Sauvignon Blanc “ZOE’S” 2007, Peninsula Ridge VQA Niagara Peninsula………….. $ 40.00
We are very proud to offer to you, the first in a series of Jonathans’ Private Label Wines.
Zoe’s Sauvignon Blanc has aromas of honeydew melon and mineral with some floral notes
and a touch of apple. There is a wonderful balance of fruit and acidity on the palate with
flavours of lemony pear and mineral, ending with a long finish of citrus peel, and again a
touch of mineral
Red Wine
Shiraz, Errázuriz ‘Max Reserva’ 2006, Valle de Aconcagua, Chile……………..…… $ 48.00
Wine & Spirits gives a 90 point rating to this wine. It is deep ruby red and violet in
colour, with a highly aromatic intensity that showcases notes of blackberries and cherries.
It is a well rounded wine, with tannins that deliver a soft structure and velvety texture.
Great with steaks, game and roasted meats.

Notes on the Decline of Romance
Once upon a time, an Alsatian warrior fought so valiantly for a Magyar King, that he was
granted the hand of the King’s daughter as reward. The Princess, fearing the effects of
displacement, brought Hungarian vines to her new home in Alsace. The wines from the vines
she brought were called Tokay after the famous Hungarian dessert wine known as Tokaji.
Recent EU agreements have found that the Tokay d’Alsace infringes on the proprietary name
of the Hungarian wine and Alsatian producers have agreed slowly to phase out the name
Tokay, expunging all of the latent homesickness from the wine. There is, after all, no
relationship between Furmint, the grape in Tokaji, and Pinot Gris. Tant pis, no?

The Pleasures of Maturity
We are proud to offer a selection of wines from the small and much-prized estates of St.-Emilion
from a number of vintages. Softer than many Médoc wines because of a higher proportion of
Merlot in the blend, the wines of St.-Emilion mature beautifully and are capable, as Hugh
Johnson says, of “asking unsolvable questions as they age.” These are wines for contemplative
spirits.
