Trade balance between France and Qatar: + €110.6m in 2013 (€6.8m in 2012) in favor of Qatar. Total French exports: €736.8m in 2013 (€775.0m in 2012), - 4.9%. Total French imports: €847.4m (€781.8m in 2012, + 8.4%). + 973% since 2009 (€79m). French exports to Qatar (Source: French customs, 2013 data except when mentioned) Qatari imports ranking: France ranks as the 9th supplier of Qatar. French market share: 3.68% (4.36% in 2012) with positive projections due to recent contract awards (airplanes and construction projects). Main export items: Airbus (€288m, 39% exports), capital goods (around 20%), consumer goods (increasing share). Main items: Hydrocarbon, 86.3% in 2013 (89.5% in 2012). LNG accounts for 79.1%, imports and refined oil for 7.2%. French investments in Qatar (Source: French Central Bank) French Foreign Direct Investments (FDI) stocks in Qatar: €1.93bn in 2012 (€1.68bn in 2011), + 15%. Multiplied by 5 since 2005. Qatar is the first destination for French FDI in GCC countries. Main French FDI sectors: oil and gas extraction (60%), petrochemical industries (25%), financial services (7%), engineering, environment and retail. Around 100 French companies in Qatar, around 50 franchises. Main French companies in Qatar: Total (3rd foreign investor in Qatar), Technip, GDF-Suez, Air Liquide, Bouygues, Vinci, Airbus, Thales, SuezEnvironnement, Veolia, Egis, Systra, BNP Paribas, Carrefour, Monoprix… 4500 French residents in Qatar (mainly top level management), ie. the 3rd Western community in Qatar. France is the 2nd destination of Qatar’s foreign investments. Main QIA portfolio investments in France: Total, Vinci, Veolia, Lagardère, LVMH, Groupama building on the Champs-Elysées, Vivendi and Airbus Group. Main hotels investments: Katara Hospitality owns Royal Monceau, Peninsula and Buddha Bar hotels in Paris, and Carlton hotel in Cannes. Private Qatari investors also own hotels such as Hôtel du Louvre (Paris), Concorde-Lafayette (Paris) and Méditerranée (Nice). Main recent portfolio investments: Vente Privée.com, Société Foncière Lyonnaise. Future French Champions (joint venture between Caisse des Dépôts and Qatar Holding), was created in June 2013 to invest in dynamic French SMEs.
