rapport aux 14,000 livres du simple JT8D-1. Le prototype Viggen
doit voler en 1967-1968, et sa version d'attaque AJ37 entrera en
service en 1970 pour remplacer le A32 Lansen. La version d'interception et d'attaque JA37 remplacera le Draken entre 1970 et 198o"
D'autres pays europdens commencent a s'interesser a l'achat de ce
nouvel avion suedois. Le prix de chaque Viggen est estime a la
somme remarquablement raisonnable de £715,000, dont £290000
pour la cellule, £113,500 pour le reacteur et £143,000 pour les
equipements electroniques, le restant attribue a la recherche.
En tant qu'unique constructeur d'avions en Suede, Saab (dont
le capital appartient a 10,000 actionnaires prives) a ete choisi
comme maitre d'oeuvre du developpement du Systeme 37. Avec
ses propres moyens Saab a developpe l'avion biplace a reaction
