2nd CIRCULAR
2nd WORKSHOP OF THE EWRS WORKING GROUP:
WEED MAPPING
Jokioinen, Finland
21-23 September 2011
Dear Colleague,
nd
We are pleased to give you preliminary information on the 2 workshop of our working group.
Information on the workshop will also appear on the working group’s web site:
http://www.ewrs.org/weedmapping/
The aim of the workshop is to learn about the latest weed mapping activities in Europe. This
includes both micro- (plots, small areas) and macro-mapping projects (regions, countries).
Methodology will be emphasized as we would like to find tools to allow us to combine data for an
European overview of weed distribution and to derive conclusions and trends from our existing
data. Contributions on all aspects of weed mapping are invited.
In this circular you will find:
 Scientific programme
 Information on venue, accommodation, travel and payment
 Provisional list of participants
We look forward to meeting you in Finland.

Venue
The Workshop will take place at MTT Agrifood Research Finland in Jokioinen. MTT is Finland's
leading institution in agricultural and food research, and in agro-environmental research. MTT
operates under the Ministry of Agriculture & Forestry and employs around 850 people at 14
locations across Finland. The head office is situated at Jokioinen, a 1.5-hour drive from Helsinki.
More information is available at www.mtt.fi
MTT has a long tradition in weed mapping, particularly in spring cereal fields. Current research
activities deal with recent weed surveys in spring cereals in 2007-2009, diversity of weed
communities in changing climate and prediction of future distribution of alien arable weeds.
