BEHOLD ! ITISGOOD Introit Holy Spirit, come. Make my eyes to see
To the weak I became weak, so that I might win the weak. I have become all things to all people, that I might by all means save some. I do it all for the sake of the gospel, so that I may share in its blessings. Apostle Paul (1 Corinthians 9:22-23) Those who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:31 BEHOLD! IT IS GOOD Memorial Prayer Introit Holy Spirit, come. Make my eyes to see. Make my ears to hear. Make my mouth to speak. Make my heart to sing and my hands to reach out and touch the world with your love. Interlude Proclamation In life and in death we belong to God. Through the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, The love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit, We trust in the one triune God, the Holy One of Israel, Whom alone we worship and serve. Call to Worship Lift up your hearts We lift them up to the Lord ††† In the morning, while it was still very dark, Jesus got up and went out to a deserted place, and there he prayed. And Simon and his companions hunted for him. When they found him, they said to him, “Everyone is searching Mark 1:35-37 for you.” Prayer In the Light of the Morning (3x) In the light of the morning the love of God fills our hearts In the light of the morning the love of God fills our hearts And we shall sing for joy and we shall sing for joy And we shall sing for joy and we shall sing for joy GRACE ABOUNDS Organ/Piano Dianne Holliman Assistants Philip Watts Logan Rolfe Charlotte Baker-Shenk Prayer of Confession Merciful God, we confess that so often we doubt your presence and your love. We are weary and afraid. We fail to trust in you. Forgive us. Lift us up on eagle’s wings and renew us in your love, that we might learn to love others as you love us. Kyrie Eleison (Ghanian) (Lord, have mercy) Declaration of Grace & Gratitude We will love God with all our heart, mind, soul and strength, And love our neighbors as we love ourselves. Bishop Leslie Weatherhead The problem of this culture is that we make natural enemies out of prayer and transforming action when the two are really Siamese twins: either without the other is incomplete. Joan Chittister The Lord doesn’t look so much at the greatness of our works as at the love with which they are done. Teresa of Avila (1515-1582) I know if you Pray Somewhere in this world— Something good will happen. Jerusalem is roughly 5,930 miles from here as the crow flies. If we can get a minimum of 100 members to participate, each of us will have to walk about 60 miles, which is about 10 miles a week. Sign up in the Fellowship Hall starting Feb. 12. Ordinary Time Fifth Sunday February 5, 2012 10:45 A.M. Groundhog Day Celebrate this unlikely oracle, this ball of fat and fur, whom we so mysteriously endow with the power to predict spring. Let’s hear it for the improbable heroes who, frightened at their own shadows, nonetheless unwittingly work miracles. Why shouldn’t we believe this peculiar rodent holds power over sun and seasons in his stubby paw? Who says that God is all grandeur and glory? Unnoticed in the earth, worms are busily, brainlessly, tilling the soil. Field mice, all unthinking, have scattered seeds that will take root and grow. Grape hyacinths, against all reason, have been holding up green shoots beneath the snow. How do you think spring arrives? There is nothing quieter, nothing more secret, miraculous, mundane. Do you want to play your part in bringing it to birth? Nothing simpler. Find a spot not too far from the ground and wait. Lynn Ungar S HEPHERDSTOWN P RESBYTERIAN C HURCH 100 W.
