Information for Contributors
The African Development Review is interested in publishing papers, research notes and book reviews on
development issues in Africa. The journal focuses on policy-oriented papers, be they more or less
technical. Articles submitted should not be under consideration elsewhere. Manuscripts, which are deemed
suitable and are in accordance with the objectives of the Review, will be sent anonymously to at least two
referees. The editors will normally make their decision six months after the receipt of the manuscript.
Preparation and submission of manuscripts
1. Four copies of manuscripts should be submitted, double spaced throughout and typed clearly on one
side of the paper only. Each copy should include on a separate covering sheet the number of words and
the author’s name, title, current address, telephone, fax and e-mail numbers. Papers should be within
the range of 8,000 to 10,000 words. There are neither submission fees nor page charges.

3. Once accepted, contributors are encouraged to supply their paper on diskette together with the hard
copy. Preferred file formats are WordPerfect or MS Word. If using other packages, the file should be
saved as Rich Text Format or Text Only. The diskette must be identical to the hard copy.
4. A paper must be preceded by an abstract of no more than 200 words which should be submitted in
English or French. It should state, in condensed form, the contribution made by the paper.
5. No more than 3 levels of headings should be used. Footnotes are to be avoided and should take the
form of endnotes listed prior to the references. The Harvard style of referencing is used (author’s name
and date of publication bracketed in the text) and all works cited should be listed alphabetically by
author after the main body of the text, style as follows:

Tables and artwork
All tables and figures should be supplied on separate sheets, not included within the text, but have their
intended position clearly indicated in the manuscript. Figures should be supplied as high quality, original
artwork and any lettering or linework should be able to sustain reduction to the final size of reproduction.
Tints and complex shading should be avoided. Figures supplied on disk must be accompanied by a hard
copy and should be originated in a drawing package and saved as an EPS file.
Copyright
The contribution of the author(s) should be completely original, it should in no way violate any existing
copyright, and it should contain nothing of a libellous or scandalous character. The copyright of published
papers and reviews will be held by the African Development Bank. Contributors will be asked to sign a
copyright declaration form when their paper or review is accepted for publication. Five copies of the
journal will be supplied free of charge to the main author.

La Revue africaine de développement souhaite publier des articles, des notes de recherche et des
chroniques de livres sur les questions de développement en Afrique. Cette publication s’intéresses tout
particulièrement aux articles de qualité, traitant des questions de politique générale. Les textes ne doivent
pas avoir été soumis à d’autres publications pour parution. Les manuscrits sont transmis anonymement à au
moins deux évaluateurs.
Préparation et présentation des manuscrits
1. Les textes, à envoyer en quatre exemplaires, en double interligne, doivent être dactylographiés
clairement sur une seule page des feuillets. Chaque exemplaire doit être accompagné d’une feuille
séparée sur laquelle sont indiqués le nombre de mots, le nom et la fonction de l’auteur, son adresse
actuelle, ses numéros de téléphone, télécopie et courrier électronique. La longueur des articles doit étre
de 8000ÿ10000 mots. La Revue ne perçoit ni commission sue les textes présentés ni frais de
publication.

3. Les auteurs dont les textes ont été acceptés sont invités à joindre une copie sur disquette aux copies
papier de leurs articles. Il convient d’utiliser de préférence WordPerfect ou MS Word. Si d’autres
logiciels sont utilisés, le fichier doit être sauvegardé sous Rich Text Format ou Text Only. Le texte sur
disquette doit être identique à la copie papier..
4. Le texte doit être précédé d’un résumé, en anglais ou en français, de 200 mots au maximum qui
présente, sous une forme succincte, le résultat de l’étude menée.
5. Le textes doivent comporter trois niveaux de titres au maximum. Il faut éviter les notes de bas de page
et opter plutôt pour les notes placées en fin de texte avant la liste bibliographique. Le style Harvard de
renvois bibliographiques (nom de l’auteur et date de la publication indiqués entre parenthèses dans le
texte) doit être utilisé; les auteurs doivent faire figurer la liste de tous les ouvrages cités, par ordre
alphabétique, à la fin du texte, selon le modèle suivant:

Tableaux et illustrations
Les tableaux et illustrations doivent être fournis sur des feuillets distincts, non inclus au texte, mais leur
place dans le corps du texte doit être clairement indiquée. Les schémas doivent être des originaux
d’excellente qualité; les titres et lignages doivent pouvoir être réduits à la taille de la reproduction. Il y a lieu
d’éviter les teintes et les trames complexes. Les illustrations sur disquette doivent être accompagnées d’une
copie papier; elles doivent être réalisées avec un logiciel de dessin et sauvegardées sous un fichier EPS.
Droits d’auteur
La contribution de (s) l’auteur (auteurs) doit être totalement originale, elle ne doit en aucune façon
contrevenir à la législation en vigueur en matière de propriété littéraire et son contenu ne doit en aucune
façon être de nature diffamatoire. Les droits d’auteur des articles et chroniques publiés seront détenus par
la Banque africaine de développement. Il sera demandé aux auteurs de signer une déclaration de droits
d’auteur lorsque leur article ou chronique sera acceptée pour publication. Cinq exemplaires de la Revue
seront fournis à titre gracieux au principal auteur.
