Le retour - The return - Il ritorno - El regreso
For David, a young thirty years old owner of a Parisian communication
company he’s managing with his wife Michelle, life is comfortable and
unhindered. Especially since the couple is expecting a happy event, as
they will become parents. This is not counting on some news revealing
them that David’s father is dying. Unrelated to him since its 15 years,
David’s animosity prevents him to talk about the past and that father he
calls “genitor”... But David cannot escape anymore... As a future father,
Michelle faces him. Pushed into a corner and wanting to prove he is worthy of his future responsibilities. David decides to travel to Switzerland
and meet the man who broke his childhood to finally square things up…
SYNOPSIS
Pour David, jeune trentenaire patron d’une société de communication
Parisienne qu’il gère avec sa femme Michelle, la vie est commode et sans
entraves. D’autant plus que le couple attend un heureux événement :
ils vont devenir parents. C’est sans compter sur une nouvelle leur apprenant que le père de David est mourant. N’ayant aucun lien avec ce
dernier depuis ses 15 ans, et lui vouant une animosité mesurée, David
refuse d’en parler et encore moins de se rendre au chevet de ce père
qu’il a toujours nommé « géniteur »... Mais David ne pourra pas fuir bien
longtemps. Michelle met le futur père de son enfant face à lui-même.
Poussé dans ses retranchements et voulant prouver qu’il est à la hauteur
de ses futures responsabilités, David se résout à partir en Suisse auprès
de l’homme qui a brisé son enfance pour enfin régler ses comptes...
THE RETURN A FILM BY DANIEL TORRISI
“The Return” is a film that question the filiation link. more precisely the father
- son relationship. A fundamental and constitutive state for any person. An exclusive relationship which, when denied, may be strongly destructive...
The main character: David, as always repressed a creeping hate against his father. A coward father, without scruples, without values, without any respect to
David and the rest of his family. A father who has never given or transmitted
something to him... A father David calls: “genitor” and nothing more. However
David is a figure that atones the sins of his father to accomplish himself ...
The emotions transmitted in the film are developed around themes related to
abandonment, injustice and heredity Also, it was important not to make the
“bad” father an easy target to destroy. In fact,it’s more appropriate to focus on
the difficulty of being a father, and more generally a parent, without falling into
an easy judgment or accusations.
David is proud; he is awkward; revanchist; generous; sometimes immoral; perfectionist: roguish... He sees himself as in a mirror when he face up his father.
A father who does not seek redemption, but comprehension. A father who, despite himself, pushes David to reconnect with a conflictual rejected past and
move on and grow.
This film is very dear to me because it depicts a tormented character through
an heavy education and heritage that symbolize the troubles and fears of the
adulthood transition. David looks like me. He looks like you in some ways… At
least, i would like to think so...

Réalisateur
« Le retour » est un film qui questionne le lien de filiation. Plus exactement la
relation père – fils. Un rapport fondamental et constitutif pour tout individu.
Une relation exclusive qui, lorsqu’elle est reniée, peut s’avérer vigoureusement
destructive…
Le héros principal: David, est un personnage qui refoule depuis toujours une
haine larvée à l’encontre de son père. Un père lâche, sans scrupules, sans valeurs et sans égard vis à vis de David et du reste de sa famille. Un père qui n’a
jamais rien donné et encore moins transmis…
Un père que David nomme : « géniteur » et rien de plus. Pourtant David représente une figure qui expie les péchés de son père pour s’accomplir…
Les émotions véhiculées dans le film se développent autour de thématiques
liées à l’abandon, à l’injustice et à l’hérédité. Aussi, il était important de ne
pas faire du «mauvais» père une cible facile à détruire. En effet, il faut aussi
s’intéresser à la difficulté d’être père ou plus généralement parent, sans tomber
dans un procès d’intention ou de jugement facile.
David est fier; il est maladroit; revanchard; généreux; parfois immoral; perfectionniste; de mauvaise foi… Il se voit comme dans un miroir face à son père. Un
père qui ne cherche pas la rédemption mais de la compréhension. Un père qui,
malgré lui, oblige David à renouer avec un passé conflictuel inassumé pour enfin
l’affronter et devenir père à son tour…
Ce film m’est très cher car il met en scène un personnage tourmenté par une
éducation et un héritage lourds à porter qui symbolisent aussi les troubles et les
peurs du passage à l’âge adulte. David me ressemble. Il vous ressemble aussi à
certains égards, du moins, j’ose le croire…

Biographie
After making several short films selected in various national and international festivals, Daniel Torrisi graduated from film school “ECAL” in
Lausanne. While participating in a variety of writing workshops as TBC
or Equinoxe he undertook various training screenwriting: Robert McKee
(US), CEFPF, Femis (F) and follows various production and distribution
workshops with Frédéric Corvez ( Mk2 - Urban distribution - France). He
develops his work as a writer and script doctor working between Switzerland and France with several production companies. After participating in the development of various projects, including his own, Daniel
Torrisi produced and directed “The Return” and continues to write various subjects including his first feature film : “The Great Correction” He
now holds the position of producer / artistic director in PanoramicFilms.
Après avoir réalisé plusieurs courts-métrages sélectionnés dans divers
festivals nationaux et internationaux, Daniel TORRISI obtient un diplôme
de réalisateur à l’Ecole Cantonale d’art de Lausanne. Tout en participant
a divers ateliers d’écriture tel qu’Equinoxe TBC ou Vision Cinéma, il entreprend différentes formations d’écriture de scénario : Robert McKee (US)
C.E.F.P.F, Fémis (F) et suit différents ateliers de production et distribution
avec Frédéric Corvez (Mk2 – Urban distribution). Il développe son travail
en exerçant comme scénariste et consultant entre la Suisse et la France
auprès de plusieurs sociétés de production. Après avoir participé au développement de divers projets, dont les siens, Daniel Torrisi produit et réalise
« Le retour ». Il continue d’écrire divers sujets de long-métrage, dont son
premier : « La grande correction » Il continue de travailler aujourd’hui au
sein de Panoramic Films en tant que scénariste, réalisateur et producteur.
