Caractéristique dominante de la région de Saint-Hyacinthe, l’agroalimentaire concerne l’alimentation et les
nombreuses activités qui s’y rapportent, de l’agriculture à la distribution de la nourriture, en passant par sa
transformation et sa préservation. Plusieurs artistes exploitent différents aspects de cette réalité qui se traduit
également par des enjeux d’une actualité certaine. Voilà pourquoi EXPRESSION présente
ORANGE, L’événement d’art actuel de Saint-Hyacinthe.
La première édition de ORANGE réunit des projets réalisés par 18 artistes du Québec, du Canada et de l’étranger qui
développent une démarche artistique étroitement liée à l’agroalimentaire. En réponse à l’invitation des commissaires,
ces artistes effectuent des interventions dans le centre-ville de Saint-Hyacinthe et sa périphérie, y présentent des
œuvres sur la place publique ou dans des locaux vacants. Ils produisent de plus certaines œuvres pour des lieux
spécifiques, en font circuler et en exposent à EXPRESSION. Au cours de l’événement, des artistes et des spécialistes
sont aussi invités à donner des conférences sur l’art et l’agroalimentaire. Leurs communications seront regroupées
dans une publication qui fera suite à l’événement. À ce programme principal s’ajoutent de nombreuses activités
satellites qui débordent le domaine des arts visuels.
Agriculture and agribusiness operations dominate the Saint-Hyacinthe region, from crop and livestock raising and
processing to food distribution. This reality, and the highly topical issues that it provokes, have fired the creativity of many
artists. Which, in turn, has prompted EXPRESSION to present ORANGE, Contemporary-Art Event of Saint-Hyacinthe.
The inaugural edition of ORANGE features works by 18 artists from Quebec and elsewhere in Canada and from
abroad, all of whom have developed one aspect or another of the agri-food chain in their art. They have been invited
by the curators to display their creations in public spaces and vacant buildings in downtown Saint-Hyacinthe and the
surrounding area. The event also includes site-specific installations, mobile works and an exhibition at EXPRESSION.
Throughout the event, artists and various experts will deliver talks on art and agri-food questions. These lectures will
be compiled in a subsequent publication. The main program will be complemented by a wide range of sidebar
activities that go beyond the visual arts.
