Lucida was a young and beautiful woman, who belonged to one of the richest and most powerful families in the town. In her villa she organized feasts with music and dances. She was very courted but cruel, and when she was satisfied from her lovers, she killed them throwing them into a well, full of sharp blades, hidden from a trapdoor. Lucida was in love with her own image and her bedroom was covered with mirrors, so she could admire herself every time she wanted. Years went by happily till one morning when Lucida, admiring herself in a mirror, discovered a small wrinkle in her beautiful face. She became desperate; she screamed and cried until a handsome young man appeared, who in reality was the Devil. He promised Lucida thirty years of a wonderful life in beauty and youth, after which he would return to claim her soul. Lucida accepted. While everybody around her aged, she was always beautiful and young with a wonderful skin and continued to have lovers who loved and died for her. But after thirty years during a summer afternoon, the Devil returned. He dragged her on his flaming coach around the wall of the town, so that every inhabitant could hear her excruciating laments; he then drove the coach into the small lake of the botanical garden. It seems that still today if someone looks at the lake one can see the wonderful face of Lucida sleeping in the muddy bottom. But there is also somebody who says that in the nights with no moon it is possible to see the flaming coach, driven to hell.
