Lesson Plan: Example 1 Topic: la beauté Performance Objectives: 1. Students will be able to describe a picture or image in TL. 2. Students will be able to give their opinion of beauty (or not) reflected in the picture or image. Standards: Standard 1.1 Interpersonal Communication: Students engage in conversations or correspondence in French to provide and obtain information, express feelings and emotions, and exchange opinions. Content: (In target language) vocabulaire: les adjectifs de la description physique et des qualités personnelles vocabulaire pour exprimer une opinion (je pense que…) grammaire : l’accord des adjectifs Procedures: 1. warm-up: Students will review vocabulary via transparency and/or crossword puzzle 2. presentation: Students will view some pictures of famous people via power point and participate in class discussion about physical appearance and personal qualities. 3. activity: Students will work with a partner to describe various pictures and discuss their opinions of beauty. The teacher will supply each group with a picture or image. Students will trade pictures after 5 minutes in order to practice describing and discussing various topics. The teacher will circulate and give feedback or scaffold as needed. 4. wrap-up: Students will volunteer (or be picked if no volunteers) to describe and discuss the picture they end up with. Instructional materials: pictures, textbook, transparency, powerpoint Lesson Plan: Example 2 Topic: la beauté Performance Objectives: 1. Students will be able to read a poem in TL. 2. Students will be able to discuss the theme of the poem and give their opinions. 3. Students will be able to answer comprehension questions about the poem. Standards: Standard 1.2 Interpretive Communication: Students understand and interpret spoken and written French on a variety of topics Standard 3.2 Connections: Acquiring Information: Students acquire information and recognize the distinctive viewpoints that are only available through francophone cultures. Content: (In target language) vocabulaire: les adjectifs de la description physique et des qualités personnelles vocabulaire pour exprimer une opinion (je pense que…) grammaire : l’accord des adjectifs, les structures pour exprimer une opinion Procedures: 1. warm-up: The teacher will show several images, pictures, or cartoons via powerpoint depicting beauty. This will (hopefully) lead to a brief discussion of interior and exterior beauty (la beauté intérieure et extérieure). 2. presentation: Students will be given copies of a poem “la beauté intérieure” from a personal blog. The actual page will be displayed. Time will be given for students to read the poem individually. 3. activity: As a class, we will take time to discuss the poem. Students will be able to ask questions about words or phrases they did not understand. The teacher will ask questions about words or phrases to check for comprehension. The teacher will ask for opinions about certain phrases and themes from the poem. Students will take turns reading lines from the poem out loud to practice reading and pronunciation skills. Finally, students will complete a short worksheet of comprehension questions about the poem. 4. wrap-up: Students will turn in their papers and debrief the activity by discussing how well they liked it or how difficult or easy they found it to be.
