The critic Loosely based on Tennesse Williams’ classic play, “The Glass Menagerie, HERE WITHOUT ME is yet another magnificent addition to the inventiveness of contemporary Iranian cinema. With the grandeur of Williams’ prose along with his grasp of human nature, and the visual brilliance and emotional depth of Iranian cinema, this film by young director Bahram Tavakoli is a gripping and immensely moving tale, something between harsh reality and a delicate fairy tale. With the adapted scenario melding universal family drama with the social issues weighing upon a nation caught between traditional ways and a longing for better times, the actors convey an astounding array of emotions. There is the triangle of the frustrated, artistic brother; the terribly timid lame daughter; and a working mother who smothers them both as she tries her best to make them “happy”. When an eligible young man enters the scene, there ensues a family meltdown. Fatemeh Motamed-Arya received the Best Actress award at the 2011 Montreal Film fest for her portrayal of the desperate mother and also the 2012 Prix Henri Langlois for her body of work, counting more than 40 films. This is a film NOT TO BE MISSED! NRI The director Born in 1976 in Tehran, Bahram Tavakoli is a graduate of Theatre (BA) and Scriptwriting (MA). An award winning short film director in national and international film festivals, he won the Best Spiritual Film Award at Fajr Film Festival with his debut feature "Barefoot in Heaven".
